No College Football on New Years Day. WTF.

I grew up with the Rose Bowl on New Years Day. This is a disgrace.

8. Yeah I guess...
With a full slew of games on a Sunday.

But still it's just not the same without the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

There's still no agreement on who's the champ even with the BCS. They should just get rid of it and go back to the way things used to be.

9. It happened most recently in 2006
which was the last time NYD fell on a Sunday. The real problem (besides playing a conference rematch game for the national championship) is that they take the big bowls that used to be played on the same day (Cotton, Sugar, Rose, and Orange) and spread them out over the course of a week so that each one can be in prime-time. So instead of an orgy of college football following the Tournament of Roses Parade we get: the Rose on the 2nd, the Sugar on the 3rd, the Orange on the 4th and the Cotton on the 6th. :puke:

I'm sorry but pairing the Rose Bowl with the TicketCity, Capital One and Outback bowls just isn't the same thing. TV ruins everything.

11. New Year's is on a Sunday this year.
The protocol has always been to play the games on January 2 when that is the case.

That said, my dad told me once that New Year's Day was like dying and going to heaven. Now it's just another day. The BCS has ruined everything.

12. The smaller schools are waging their tournaments. They will be on next week
Our UNI Panthers play Friday night up in Montana in the 1-AA quarterfinals.
I usually think of this as real college football.

13. Precisely - real national champions are being made on the fields of play
Fake national champions are being fashioned in the bowels of some computers somewhere.

15. At least your Cougs made it to a bowl
My Cougs fired their head coach after losing forty games in four years and hired Mike Leach.

16. Oooo Mike Leach
Not sure what the issue was at TT, but he's a good coach. I love high scoring, passing offenses.

17. I think it was a clash of personalities
I know and trust our AD and if he's comfortable with the hiring, then that's good enough for me.

I know that he elevated the team's academic rankings from near the bottom of the conference to one of the tops in the nation and that's what it's really all about isn't it? I know he once made a student who had refused to meet with his assigned tutors study at the fifty yard line. In a snowstorm. Brought out a desk an everything.

"Ed didn't like showing up and studying at places I felt like he needed to and like the academic people asked him to, so he can go study out there on the 50-yard line. We'll take baby steps, and if he does good studying out there, we'll decide if we're going to actually let him practice."
