Those people on general discussion board are a tough crowd
You try to bring a ray of sunshine and good news and the Debbie downers swarm. How do they exist?

4. No, probably not.
I remember they used to do that at Golden Corral.

There was line that stretched down the block

Every year, I said fuck it.

5. I dont want to be snarky because that would defeat the purpose
of a good news thread.

6. By shoveling the results of their constipation on others, was my knee jerk reaction last night, but
Today I'm thinking some of them have watched too many episodes of American Idol and thought Simon's mean-spirited snarks are what intelligent criticism is about.

And that temporary satisfaction of silence (from those who are trying to communicate in the face of pigheaded rudeness) feeling one has gotten the upper hand. NOT.

The media has set us on each other for no good reason, taught us that dissing others is 'cool.'

Hang out here a while, it's generally nicer.

:hi:

8. I usually come here to read and enjoy all the good vibes.
Kind of sad how some have to tear things down, but then I don't know their stories. I admit I have it pretty good.

9. I come here for the good vibes too. Sorry if my post seems negative.
Just trying to fathom the thinking pattern there. I've seen it in a lot of other places but am grateful to have moderators and administrators here to prevent the very bad stuff that made me give up on other websites altogether, along with many others who began to see talking on forums as futile.

I think, despite all the things going on in my life, that I too, have it pretty good. But then, even when I was homeless, penniless or suffering from catastrophic injuries, etc., loss of people I loved and conflict, I never lost love. Most people in my life are gone.

Love has sustained me beyond what most people would call hope, there is acceptance of the truth about one's own life and self, there is an infinity there that is inexhaustible. Even if one doesn't feel loved by others, the feeling of loving others is agift in itself.

There are some wonderful and uplifting stories and people here on the DU forums. Although it doesn't feel quite as welcoming to many as it was at one time, I am struck by the volume of good vibes here, especially in the Lounge.

But I don't expect much in GD at all, even the most neutral comment can trigger puzzling, out of proportion retorts. So I understand the frequent calls for retreat to the Lounge.

Hi and hugs to you.

10. No shit. I try to get people to show support for PEACE....
for cryin' out loud.

Specifically "Occupiers for Peace" and it gets little play.

:(

I may have to delete that page, 'cause it will give right-wingers more grist for the mill. I'm sure a certain website already latched onto my post and they're ridiculing the lack of response now, just as they've ridiculed other things I've posted of a similar peaceful or compassionate nature.

11. the discussion is more about debate, conflicting views, etc
it is not really a ray of sunshine place, that isn't its function

argument and debate is not without value and there are so many false rays of sunshine that people are forced to smile and smile and pretend to be "up" all day long at work that offering a ray of sunshine is not necessarily seen as a positive thing, it is like forcing something down someone's throat

there needs to be a place that isn't all smiles and happy bullshit and for some people the safety of a spirited internet discussion can be that place, no matter how heated it gets, the guns are never coming out...it's pretty harmless sport and the regulars enjoy it

13. Maybe they are miserable.
They want to make others miserable?

There seems to be more and more of that lately. The swarming part kind of creeps me out/pisses me off. You just want to yell STFU and let people have their moment.

17. "tough crowd" works, but...
"douche canoes" and "tiny fevered egos" are also acceptable descriptors.
