Movie shoot in my neighborhood - Pollack, Kidman, Penn
Wednesday and Thursday Sydney Pollack is going to be shooting some day shots in my street and the streets on either side. The movie stars Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman but I don't know if they will be there, or even if Pollack will be there (might be the 2nd unit director doing some exteriors? ). I am VERY grateful this isn't a night shoot. As it is things will be a bit weird for a couple of days. I'll keep DUers informed about anything interesting. I work at home so I'll keep an eye out. They should have good weather both days, so maybe they'll go away on time.

2. Wrong!
New York City!
The movie's called The Interpreter and is set in the UN. They've been filming all over the city for a few weeks; my street's turn is next. This is a very pre-war neighborhood; lots of brownstones and not too much traffic. The last brownstone that was in shitty condition just got spruced up, so this is our reward, I guess.

Last week, on the way to work, I had to hike through a set for the movie "The Weather Man" with Nick Cage. The shoot was right down the street and I had an unobstructed view from my window on the 26th floor. The funny thing was, it was on the first really pretty day we've had this year in Chicago, but the film crew had put fake snow and rising steam all over the street so that it looked like Winter.

Just when ya think you're in the clear, someone comes along and squirts fake snow everywhere.

I guess that the sequel to the remake of "Ocean's 11" is being shot here too. It's called, I kid you not, "Ocean's 12". Duh.

And, of course, John Cusack is taking part in his annual rite of making a movie in Chicago. This one's called, appropriately enough, "Ice Harvest".
