Cincinnati media reporting Griffey trade is imminent
Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 11:15 PM by Paragon
Local late night news, after the NCAA Championship.

Where do you suppose he's going?

1. My bet would be the Yankees
I don't like the idea, but Steinbrenner is nuts enough to do it (see ARod trade). Other possibility I've heard is back to Seattle.

2. Ick
I've heard Seattle, too - but I can't imagine why he'd want to go back there. I suppose Cincinnati was worse by comparison.

I'd shit my pants if the Cubbies or Tigers picked him up.

11. Griffey to Seattle -- He!! no
The die hard Mariners fans I know are more than happy to keep Griffey away and hope he goes to find somewhere else to play.

He p'd a lot of loyal fans with his prima donna whine and cheese act before he split Seattle. He said he wanted to go back home to Cincinnati, well no place like home ain't good enuf?

3. The Mariners...seriously?
I just can't believe he would be welcomed back there after all the animosity his departure generated amongst the fans.

I saw a post mentioning the Cubs, but I don't think it would ever happen with Patterson here.

I would think he would have to go to an AL team, as they have the crappy-ass DH rule, and his injury-prone career fits that role better than any.

4. Mind you this rumor is months old.
I think it was in an article on espn.com, but I doubt I'd able to find it now.

10. No, thanks, we don't want him!
>I just can't believe he would be welcomed back there after all the animosity his departure generated amongst the fans.<

I called the Mariners' PR awhile back and told them that I would picket their offices if they signed Griffey again.

When he was agitating to leave the Mariners, he was a nightmare. It was amazing how many truly awful stories came out about his behavior towards other team members, management, and local sportswriters and 'casters. (One of the local scribes called him a "cancer in the clubhouse".)

We don't need his pouting, primadonna ass back in Seattle. I'd send him to the Yankees, but you poor people are already dealing with the Grand Canyon-sized ego that is Alex Rodriguez. I feel your pain.

5. I don't care where he goes as long as we get pitching...
My Reds need pitching so bad I can't stand it. Also, the Reds young sluggers(Dunn/Kearns) are going to strike a million times this year so it looks like we will need hitting....and fielding...uh...looks like I won't be proud of my Reds for years to come. Baseball has been ruined by money...whoever has the most is going to win...except in certain cases...twins..KC....funny how baseball is copying politics...money is ruining it.

Can I call a truce with you? Or did I piss you off too bad in my previous posts?

But like the DU Rules state -- attack the message, not the messenger, OK?

Besides, I live in Cincinnasty...so consider me your Reds insider. Oh, and I can name the entire Cubs roster without looking -- I lived on the north side of Chicago for 7 years, a five minute walk away from Wrigley Field.

And my Cubbies beat your Reds today. :7

8. Have you been to Great American yet?
Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 11:39 PM by NaderIsMyHero
Its a beautiful stadium from what I've seen on TV. I never even been to Cincy...I've been a fan of theirs ever since the Big Red Machine...my hero's growing up were Bench,Rose,Morgan and Perez.
I live in Houston and everybody here is all excited about the Astros chances...Bonds spoiled their opening day. I think it will be a good race between Astros and Cubs in the Central this year. I would much rather see the Cubs though...I hate the Astros.
Yes, I know the Cubs won today...I watched it on TV...even though they suck I still gotta watch them.

9. Yup.
It's nice, of course, but the design suffered because the Bengals stadium (built a few years before) went way over budget. It feels incomplete and a bit tacky in spots.

Light years better than Cinergy Field (Riverfront Stadium), though.

6. Talk about a fallen star.
It wasn't too long ago people were debating wether Junior was the best player in the sport. Now, he's an injury prone wash out. Maybe he should have juiced up like Bonds.

12. Here's the "story":
http://www.wkrc.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=82CBFB7D-88E5-40BB-BC85-21C0518EC1F5

Rumors swirled Monday about the possibility of Ken Griffey, Jr. being traded as he sat on the bench for the Reds season opener against the Cubs.

Griffey, Jr. suited up and ran onto the field, but didn't play. Rumors that the Reds wanted to unload Griffey Jr.'s salary. Griffey, Jr. has said it's only a matter of time before he's traded.

Reds Chief Operating Officer John Allen said the rumors are not true.

The Reds lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-4.

13. He was almost a Padre last year.
But Phil Nevin envoked his no trade clause abd the deal died. He has expressed his desire to play in the sun of San Diego for years.

14. Ken Griffey: The Ego That Ate Cincinnati
>He has expressed his desire to play in the sun of San Diego for years.<

When he was in Seattle, all he could do was whine about how he "wanted to play for Grandma" in Cincinnati. I think he's agitating to be traded to Lou's new team, but I'm wondering if Lou can even do anything with him.

GRRRRRRR.

15. Mets, probably
The just traded Cedeno, which means they have an outfield spot open. They'll probably move Junior to rightfield.

The Mets have wanted Griffey for a long time. I wouldn't make a move for him, but then again I'm not Fred Wilpon, who throws money at the most damaged players in baseball but won't poney up an extra $10 million to get A-Rod or Vlad Guerrero.
