Escolar: The World's Most Dangerous Fish
"Escolar is the most controversial fish that you are likely to find in your fish market. This firm, white fleshed fish has an incredibly rich flavor, often described as 'succulent', or a fattier version of swordfish. Why so rich? It turns out that Escolar's diet contains food high in wax esters. Wax esters that are really difficult for Escolar to digest. As a result, these esters build up in the fish.

Where is the controversy in a buttery, delicious fish? I would say it is in the laxative like effect it has on a certain percentage of the population. Well, a 'laxative like effect' is how my fish monger described it. Others would describe it as closer to diahhrea. An expert would call it 'keriorrhoea'. Literally translated, it means 'flow of wax'. Oily orange droplets pouring out your pooper. Keriorrhoea occurs because the wax esters in the flesh of the fish pool up in your intestine."

Read the comments. Some are hilarious. I laughed till I cried, really.

5. I'm going to disagree with this assessment
Escolar gives *some* of the people who eat it diarrhea, but Fugu has a 6.8 percent fatality rate among the people who eat it.

I would rate diarrhea as a lesser threat than death.

You're afraid you'll die, and at the same time you're afraid you won't.

7. I'm tempted to try it just so I can shit orange droplets.
Which reminds me of a neighbor's poodle named Rodney. His owner liked doing crafts and one day Rodney got into her room and chewed up her bottle of glitter. She was pissed and yelled at him. The next day she had forgotten about it and was taking Rodney for a walk. She stopped to let him do his business and when she looked down she saw a steaming pile of dog shit glittering in the sunlight beside a puzzled poodle.

22. you made me laugh so hard
my wife is a nurse midwife/gyn she has her favorite story
she has seen it on the internet and says its way older than that
a woman has a Gyn appointment so she gets the kids to clean up their mess, loads her kids for school, comes home, doesnt have time for a full shower so she scrubs her business with a washcloth in the bathroom
gets to the drs he looks under the sheet and says "is today a special occasion?" but she dismisses the question
when she gets home she finds her underwear has glitter in it from the washcloth the kids were using

19. Reminds me of the time I picked up a big tub of sugar free candy at Sams
I put it on my desk for everyone to enjoy and was out of town for a couple of days. Evidently it was sweetened with sorbitol which produces a laxative effect if too many are eaten. A warning was on the tub, but in small print. One of my employees apparently ate about 1/3rd of the tub at one sitting. He had to go home early with stomach cramps and he said he had to pull over at a gas station on the way home because he almost shit himself.

21. My former office mate has this exact story. He refers to it as "pants ruining shits."
His wife is a huge foodie and she bought the fish at a local fish market. They never mentioned that this particular fish has any kind of side effect, nor did they offer the information that the suggested portion size is a max of 4 ounces. She bought two 6oz slabs and cooked them up for dinner that night.

They both missed work for three days!

She went back to that fish market and I would NOT have wanted to be the one working that day. Not only was she just plain pissed, but she wanted a refund for the fish along with the cost of a new set of sheets and two outfits.

:scared:
