25. it is complicated --
Rye whiskey, which is made from mash that consists of at least 51% rye.
Rye malt whiskey, which is made from mash that consists of at least 51% malted rye.
Malt whiskey, which is made from mash that consists of at least 51% malted barley.
Wheat whiskey, which is made from mash that consists of at least 51% wheat.
Bourbon whiskey, which is made from mash that consists of at least 51% corn (maize).
Corn whiskey, which is made from mash that consists of at least 80% corn (maize).

Whisky (Scottish English) or whiskey (Hiberno-English) is a type of distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Different grains are used for different varieties, including barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and maize (corn). Whisky is aged in wooden casks, made generally of white oak, except that in the United States corn whiskey need not be aged.

Whisky is a strictly regulated spirit worldwide with many competing denominations of origin and many classes and types. The typical unifying characteristics of the different classes and types are the fermentation of grains, distillation, and aging in wood. Indian whisky is an exception, where grain fermentation is not a requirement and the most common basis is fermented molasses. The requirement for aging in wood is also not entirely universal.

19. Yes, definitely
Maker's Mark is a great balance of price vs quality. It's a great value, IMO. I go through a few bottles each year.

22. yes, the price point is excellent ... I don't know what kali wants to spend
but some of these others that people are recommending are pretty pricey . . .

I think for the money that Maker's Mark is damn smooth stuff. ;)

23. It's also much more widely available
Sometimes boutique whiskeys can be hard to find. Since there are so many main stream brands that liquor stores are going to carry, they often don't stock more exotic ones. Most liquor stores will special order you what you want provided their distributors have it.

14. Woodford Reserve
Toured the distillery last year before I left KY and it's good bourbon.

In fact I could use a stiff shot of it right now.
