YIPPIE!! Today made the last payment on our car.
It belongs to us now. Five years of $378.66 monthly are over. Car is a 2006 Toyota Corolla and hasn't needed any repairs yet. We have been careful that it got all of its scheduled maintenance. Tomorrow it gets some new tires in front.

We are senior citizens and are going to enjoy not having to squeeze that money from the monthly budget. Friday night wife and I will go out to eat as a celebration.

3. if you can, keep making the payment to a savings account of some sort
I have been doing that for the last 5 years or so and the next car will be bought with cash.

10. I disagree
Go on a spending spree. The first month. Celebrate and feel free with that amount.

Then start putting it towards some other debt, or savings, what have you.

At least thats what I have done. Its gonna be a long time till the next one though, seeing as its about 20 years off, barring a magic student loan release fairy.

11. 6 more payments left on my car too
I will finish paying off my Mustang GT on March 27th. I plan on paying off most of my credit cards, closing the accounts and keeping 1 for emergencies. I'm already getting emails and calls from the dealership trying to entice me into trading in and getting a new one but there's nothing wrong with the car I have now plus I take excellent care of it so they can bugger off.

15. Nice looking car.
We are getting piles of the same kind of mail. And we are getting offers to extend the warranty for $XX.xx per month. All of it goes in the trash.

14. Don't say that too loud!
The car will hear you, and the next thing you know the transmission will explode.

16.  Both of ours are paid for.
My truck and Loving Wifes car have been paid off for several years. I don't want to go through that again!
I do all the mechanical repairs and maintenance ( oil, filter, and belt changes, transmission fluid and filter changes and tuneups) myself.

Hers 145,000 miles

Mine 245,000 miles
