Drunk Russian Fishermen Crash into Nuclear Submarine
:toast:

The AP reports this zealous scene of maritime shitfacery played out in Russia's Avachino Bay. Despite repeated warnings from the submarine's crew, the fishermen plowed their vessel straight into the anchored sub. And, of course, it turns out every single one of them was completely wasted.

Luckily, no serious damage was reported to the sub. But had this been a larger boat, or a more powerful collision, it could have been really bad. Nuclear submarines are exactly that—powered by small nuclear reactors, but not something you want split open and leaking into the middle of fishing waters. That would have been an awful hangover morning.

4. Back in the Cold War days, this story would have had a different ending
The second the trawler would have broken the 1km exclusion zone around the sub, the drunk fishermen would have found a Type 53 torpedo coming right for them.

6. Torpedoes are useless against small vessels, they go right under them

8. Torpedoes can be proximity fuzed
The fish goes under, detects a target within its range and explodes. The bubble formed in the water snaps the boat in half, which is how undersea mines work.

3. And we were worried about them? They get taken out by drunk fisherman
Sell all our battleships and let's get a few shrimping trawlers and a load of beer.
