The Man Cave. Is there a feminine equivalent?
For those who are not in the know, the "man cave" is a room, basement, outhouse, etc where the "man" has his toys; his guitar, drums, stereo, computer, bong, vaporizer, drink cabinet, meth pipe, junk works, etc. Usually when a man has a male friend over, they go into the man cave. There is absolutely NOTHING homoerotic about that - so STOP SAYING THAT! Seriously!

But do women have an equivalent?

I know the "women's bathroom" is the de-facto conference room when out with others, but is there a "women cave" or is there a better term for it.

3. Well...
perhaps the "craft" room? However, both descriptions seem really sexist. I do, however, have an office/craft room...yikes...

5. Stereotypical - perhaps sexist but definitely stereotypical
But they do exist

I was hoping by now, one of DU's Women would have chimed in with their "She-Cave," describing her drum set, bass, bong, etc...

8. My man don't need no man cave
We both love sports and playing video games. And when I knit or watch a Lifetime movie, he doesn't feel the need to disappear to his own room. I find it a bit sexist and childish for a man to want a man cave.

Sometimes wifey doesn't want my guitar left out, with all of the pedals, in the living room

Can't say I blame her

12. I have the Lady Room...
I have two teen boys and a spouse. I wanted ONE room where

1) No one eats anything and wipes their hands on anything.

2) Their crap isn't left all over the place.

3) The furniture is dusted regularly.

4) I can have a beautiful and comfortable feminine looking chair that doesn't get grubby. I have orange pillows.

5) Remote is always where I leave it and the only channels that show on tv are the ones I have set in my lineup.

I do have a Man Chair in the Lady Room, but it doesn't get as much use as it did before.

THEY HAVE THE REST OF THE HOUSE PLUS THE BOY CAVE. I have my bathroom and the lady room. :)

15. That sounds like a plan. I intend for the master suite, kitchen, and living/dining area
to be mine in the new house. They get the two offices, the kids' bedrooms, and most of the basement. (I do want a space for my treadmill down there, though.)

plans to build a treehouse in our new backyard. Probably not until next summer at this rate, though.

22. In my house I get the library, hubby gets an upstairs bedroom
As his computer/comics room.

In the library I have my computer, the closet where I keep my embroidery and needlework stuff, my sewing machine and my needlework chair where I stitch all my embroidery and needlepoint projects. It also includes most of our books.

I can't climb the stairs currently so hubby effectively gets all of upstairs (two bedrooms and a bathroom), but he keeps his comics, D&D, Magic and strategy games in the same room as his computer. He also gets the upstairs deck which has a wonderful view across the farm. That's the only part I envy!

23. We each have half the house, it works out great.
Den, bathroom, bedroom each, living room and kitchen when we have together time,
and he has his tool shed for a real man cave.

I appreciate the need for "a room of one's own" and I think it strengthens a relationship to maintain some individuality, some privacy, some alone thinking time.
At least for those of us who are older, with a long life of independence and a need for long periods in a day of solitude. Or, as Mr. Dixie puts it, " I need a long leash".

OTOH, I know people who thrive being around family almost every minute.

Which is the reason the significant other found us cool in the first place...

Yeah, it sounds sexist, but in this case it's true. She loves baking. It's not necessarily for me either, although I consume my fair share.
