The first season (when are the cable seasons?) was moderately addictive because it appeared that two articulate people were in touch with their complexities and were ready to move on with coming together.
They seemed to be progressing, relating fairly well, acknowledging the bumps of the past, but moving on.
The dude seems "nice" (quotation marks intended). In denial. Her, too. "My children all ran away from me. Now my dog?!1 What *is* it about me?!1" It's always, like, horrible stuff but what does it have to do with me?!1
And in today's re-run of the new season, out of the blue in a restaurant, she brings a full frontal attack with all of her old, SAME gripes, really brutal ("You BRUTALIZED me, Dad.") . He explodes, they split again, they inch back together with two therapists as referees. She's writing another book of gripes. He's, like, shit happened, it's over, what can I do now.
He grinds on about Farah. She grinds on about Farah and the rest of the gripes. She, "My first book was a tell all. This one is a woman's journey, hopeful." Uh...no.
He's always saying he's willing to take this fall and that fall. It's like they both have this game: He "leads with his chin" and restores back to his original stance, so there is never a knock-out and no punch is enough to satisfy her. Over and over. Problems never get resolved; it's called "sandbagging," where somebody claims to be going through the steps of resolution but actually will never allow resolution and will bring up the SAME gripes in ambushes.
Well, he's got at least two other kids, so it can be a Reality Series II and III, a franchise.
