the other night they said that a harvest moon is just a bright one in the fall when farmers could farm by it. And it was not orange. What did you learn? Did you see a harvest moon tonight where you are?

1. My dear applegrove...
The full moon was Monday night. I believe it was called the harvest moon...

The reason the one you saw tonight was orange was because it was most likely near the horizon. The air pollution and the increased atmosphere that you're looking through make the moon look orange.

3. Used to always hear of farmers getting hurt and killed during the harvest moon
Many would try to take advantage of that extra light and stay out on their massive machines all night. The combination of not great light and very tired people would often end up in tragedy.
I worked with a very young person (31) who lost both arms in a matter of seconds. One of my classmates lost his father when I was young. On and on.

Seems like these accidents are lessening, but then, lots of people have left the farm.
