1. Get in a time machine, go back to at least 1995, and stay at The Sands.

...it was demolished in 1996.

2. Say a prayer, make a wish, but it's only in the movies now.
I'd settle for 1976 if I could go back, TYVM.

Srsly, I'm a real big poker fan. So where I go is important.

3. I like DeNiro's closing voice-over in "Casino"...
Edited on Mon Sep-12-11 11:49 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
...where he mourns the death of the "real" Vegas...mob-owned casinos like The Sands...and the dawn of new mega-casinos designed to simply fleece the tourists.

There is a photo of The Sands in the book "Rat Pack Confidential"...I have been reading it a chapter at a time at Barnes and Noble ( ! )...of the Sands right after it was built, with a VISIBLE Vegas skyline, and PARKING SPACES OUT IN FRONT.

:-)

15. It used to be...
It was our layover hotel there for a couple of years. It's pretty much a craphole now.

Obviously, I don't spend a lot of time in Vegas.

10. If it were me, my top choices would be the Bellagio
Caesar's, the Mirage and the Venetian. All of which have exceedingly serious and excellent food options to go with palatial luxury. The Wynn is also worthy of consideration.

This would be my list too with the Bellagio just topping Caesar's.

11. I think we've stayed at them all
The Aria is beautiful, but Ceasars is my favorite. Great rooms, good gambling, great food.

Personally, the suite I had at the Venetian was my favorite. Stunning room. There are better resorts, but the beauty of Vegas is that they're all just a short walk away anyway. Going to one doesn't stop you from hanging out in the others. The Venetian had the nicest room.

17. Rio, Hilton and Hard Rock are off the strip, so you'll need transportation ...
If you want to experience Vegas glitz, you should stay on or by the strip.

Bellagio is right off the strip. From memory, on the strip ...

The Luxor
MGM Grand
New York
Planet Hollywood

The hotels have "themes", so I would recommend thinking about that when choosing.

Do me a favor, play $10 in the Village People Party video slots for me. Thanks. :hi:

22. if all expenses are paid, your boss/convention planner will tell you where to stay
Edited on Thu Sep-15-11 08:05 PM by pitohui
that said, if you do have a choice, don't bother with the rio, bad location and i've never had a good stay there, something shitty about the upkeep of that place, one time i had to get the desk to let me in my room EVERY time because they couldn't even make a card key work, fuck 'em, after awhile, i figured out that even a comped suite wasn't worth this

aria and bellagio both have good locations but unless your employer or whoever is paying authorizes the suite there i would be cautious

find out what your expense account budget really is before assuming it's "whatever"

those are the only three resorts you mentioned so won't comment on any others, but i do strongly suggest you talk to your boss/convention planner and find out what your hotel choices actually are...i've had comps in most of them and i'll be happy to give advice but i'm not gonna post write-ups on every hotel on the strip, there are too many
