A question for you Loungites.; Should I make an announcemnt in GD about good news in my life?

I realize many who are regulars in this forum don't even bother clicking on anything I put up in here, but for those of you who did click on this thread, a question;

I have recently secured a MUCH better job than I had previously. Is putting up a thread in General Discussion announcing such a thing in bad taste?

I've put up posts in both GD about the job I do, like these two;

I've noticed that when a fellow DU'er puts up a post that announces personal good news, it is often met with derision, as if one should not have good fortune or even an improvement in job quality simply because not everyone is sharing the same fate.


I got a new job. Doing the same thing, but with a better company. Is that bad?

But I wouldn't bother with GD. As you've already observed, you'll likely get a ration of crap from the Debbie Downers who don't think anybody should have anything good happen to them because somewhere, somebody else isn't doing as well. Stay in the Lounge and celebrate your good fortune where people won't crap on you.

9. Well, I appreciate the sentiment, and that is pretty much why I put up this thread here.

"A ration of Crap" is exactly what I've seen, over and over in GD when someone dares post something that reflects good personal news.

There is a reason I have averaged less than 4 posts a day since I joined DU. I just don't want to participate in arguments, I suppose.

ranging from how dare you be so insensitive to those who can't see the sun, or that sun causes cancer therefore you are pro-cancer, or how dare you post a message like without a link to an article proving the veracity of your statement

BTW, the Co I was working for is out of Clearwater. The new co is out of JAX. Delivering strictly new cars, mostly imports from the Port of Jax & Port of Brunswick, GA. throughout the SE.

I'll be through the Tampa Bay area regularly.

19. Missed your earlier posts - congratulations!

Seems like I have seen some posts in GD on new jobs and they are generally (generally) well received.
We see a lot of turbine trucks around here - your ride looks like a midget next to that one.

ETA - are you apprehensive about winter weather or will you be mostly south?

21. Mostly South.

The outfit I start with on Monday delivers new cars picked up from the Port of Jacksonville & Brunswick, GA and delivers no further north than NC and no further West than Dallas and Houston. Backhauls come out of the Port of Houston as well as plants in TN, GA, NC and apparently AR and MO.

But after 20 + years Over The Road in all the lower 48 and 3 Canadian provinces, no, winter weather never bothered me at all. I probably have well in excess of 40,000 miles driving on white roads. Never a problem. A few serious moments, but no accidents.

And yes, that day I did feel kinda tiny next to that blade truck. Those things are bloody LOOOOOONG!

Vanity threads go in the Lounge. Posting stuff in GD that doesn't belong there often looks like an attempt to get more attention, recs, brag, and gives the mods more work to do than they already have to deal with. It's a big pain in the ass for the mods, and the people in GD are sick of so many OP's that should be in another forum... especially from people who know damn well it's not the right forum.

On the other hand, if you can resist it I wouldn't go back and read too much of what might follow. There's so much rage and bitterness, and those things are toxic. You do not need that during your time of joy.

MOST of all, celebrate! You should be happy and self-congratulatory and thankful and generous out of your own new success and I'm here to be happy right along with you.
