Gout attack
pretty bad one

It started last night, felt some tightness and iced it up. It has been a while since the last one.

Today - locked up. Icing, colchicine, ibuprofen, elevation at home and at work.

Still in pain. Every step is an adventure. Not the worst ever but I would give it a 6.3 on the scale.

2. I went through that a few years ago. NASTY PAIN.
Been on allopurinol since then, and it has shut down that problem.

3. I use to get gout.

Worst pain I ever experienced. I no longer get attacks and take no meds.

Became vegan, no problems.

4. Fellow sufferer - I know what you are going through.
Cherries never worked for me, but allopurinol did. But I can't afford the office calls to get the meds.
Once I stopped drinking alcohol the pain level and frequency dropped dramatically.
Becoming a vegan would probably help also.

5. I know your pain
The only thing that ever seemed to work for me was R.W. Knudsen Family® Black Cherry Juice (has to be pure without added sugar)

At the onset of a flare-up, drink 32 oz over the course of 24 hours.
If you can get fresh lemons, squeeze 1/2 of a lemon into each 8 oz glass.

I know it seems like BS, but it actually works great for me.

To avoid future problems, eat a few cherries (black or tart) everyday... fresh lemons in water (no sugar) are a decent substation if you cannot get cherries.

I decided to give this a try when a doctor said take a Colchicine tablet every 1/2 hr. until the pain is bearable, or you poop in your pants. Well, that doesn't sound too much like medicine to me!

Also, Indomethacin works great for a lot of people.. Note: many people have a weird reaction of having "extreme paranoia" and crazy thoughts coupled with racing heart with this drug... so watch for this is you are prescribed this as a treatment.

Lots of water to flush out the uric acid and elevation!

Best of luck... nobody understands that pain unless they have felt it first hand.

6. I had been taking a healthy swig of cherry juice every morning
but I had gotten slack about it. I had never heard about adding lemon.

I think I just got lazy on my eating.

7. What did you eat the day before?
I can't do whiskey, beef, or beans any more.

I miss the beans the most.

8. My dad got a bad attack a few months ago...from the all-you-can-eat shrimp table!
I didn't realize that shrimp had so much uric acid, and I don't know if other shellfish are as bad, but that might be a factor.

Cherries might prevent another attack, but if you're suffering now, I think you might wanna go for the drugs to get relief. Good luck, and feel better.

9. I know what you feel too... but what set mine off was me taking Ibuprofen for some pain in my hand
hell, something in "One-a-day" makes my gout hurt!
