So we got some organic wasp killer spray
We had a large nest of yellowjackets right next to where we park the car, and after ignoring it for a month, it simply became too much. Hundreds of those buggers lived there. The nest was buried in the ground behind one of the railroad ties we use to shore up the embankment on the side of our driveway. So we got a can of non-toxic wasp killer spray. Evidently peppermint oil was the main active ingredient, or some such minty oil.

I was dubious. Very dubious.

But for the sake of the planet I was willing to give it a shot. So I sprayed that nest silly. You know what I got? Not dead yellowjackets. Oh no, no-no-no-no-no! They weren't dead at all! They were minty. Minty and pissed off. So I retreated into the house, swearing to get the toxic stuff the next day.

Well, evidently this spray DOES kill yellowjackets. Just not the way you would expect. You see, those wasps were minty. I mentioned that I think, but I don't think I reinforced just how minty they were.

MINTY

As in you smelled the nest from the porch minty. Turns out animals smell the mint too! It's not the spray that kills those yellowjackets! Noooooo. The spray works organically, getting mother nature to do the job. Evidently animals, or at least some animals LIKE minty smelling things. So much so that they dig up the lawn to EAT the nest and everything in it!

Leaving a minty crater in the lawn, but no more yellowjacket problem.

They should have put a picture of a lawn with a crater on the spray can to let you know what to expect, instead of the deceiving picture of just a dead wasp.

2. I was out for dinner at the Keg patio tonight. A hornet was buzzing around me. I wanted
to get rid of it and was scared. It then landed on my railing and started to 'wash its face' with its little arms. It was so cute. I wished that I could take it home.

5. Oh and I've stepped on a nest and been stung multiple times. I hate bees. But this little guy was
adorable.

6. Earlier this summer
I had wasps building a nest between the screen & window in my bedroom. It was getting bigger by the day. So I got a spray bottle, filled it with hot water & Dr. Bronner's (minty) soap. Soaked the hell out of the nest & knocked it down the next day. End of wasps, end of nest. They have since relocated.
