2. Super-sleepy. Still hurting. Seeing the oncologist tomorrow

Tomorrow I am going to see the medical oncologist at Moffitt to look into chemotherapy, which may be useful to shrink the tumors (they won't be trying to cure it, just make things easier and buy some time).

I'm getting frustrated by the bureaucracy at Moffitt, where I have to ask permission to get my local hospice involved with me. I am afraid that Moffitt's pain clinic, which seems afraid to medicate me adequately, is going to deny my request for hospice (I know hospice will give me enough pain and anxiety meds) because the Moffitt pain clinic doesn't allow a patient to seek any medication from outside doctors. So that will be my next battle.

Pain clinics are notoriously paranoid - but the meds can be a dogsend....

Sometimes that can buy you a lot of time. It's certainly worth a try.

Any chance you can just drop out of the pain clinic? They usually deal with chronic pain, not with things that can actually kill you, so they tend to be very conservative about drugs.

Hoping you get what you need from the docs.

If so, that is said to help big time with chemo

You can cut out the nausea, the lack of appetite - because you NEED to eat...

6. Minnesota is not a medical marijuana state, but someone I knew who had terminal cancer

was able to get marijuana through a nurse who had the right connections. Just sayin'.

My oncologist's pain clinic actually does random drug tests, and kicks out anyone who turns up positive for THC.

An entity called a "pain clinic" should be doing ANY and EVERYthing to alleviate pain, not causing stress and treating sufferers like criminals. I am appalled.

9. I am so distressed to hear that you have another battle

that you should not have to deal with because of the medical plan you have. No one should have to fight such battles, but stick to your guns. Just don't let it take all of your energy and spirit.

11. Just a hunch--

Hospice, or some of their nurses, may have dealt with the pain clinic issue or THC or both. Definitely worth a try.
