There's something especially sweet about the sound of rain on the roof after a long drought....
This was our 2nd hottest and 6th driest summer in Mississippi since records were kept. I can't even remember our last rain-maybe a month, five weeks ago. Just 100 degrees+ day after day after day. Then yesterday the early rain from Tropical Storm Lee started....its been over 24 hours of soft, slow steady rain with short breaks.

Sorry, Texas, I know you needed it even more than we but things didn't go your way. I know I'll sleep so much better tonight, listening to the sound of the rain on the roof.

1. Maybe close to 10 years ago, I went to a concert performed by an incredible singer/songwriter...

.
... from NYC named Lucy Kaplansky. I love her work and, during her break... she wandered out
onto the back porch of the resort and joined us. Very sweet and unassuming -- just a real
person who happened to be very talented and successful with her music.
.
BTW... this took place in Tucson, AZ. Hot and fairly muggy, some pretty strong cooling winds
kicked up and, off in the distance, some pretty impressive thunderstorms were approaching
(I love thunderstorms... and I've not seen such impressive and varied lightning as I've seen
here on a regular basis in the monsoon season).
.
As she was tuning up in front of the crowd for her second set... she announced that it looked
like it was going to rain... and was genuinely surprised by the exuberant applause that news
inspired from the audience.
.
Being from NYC, rain is gray and a real hardship/unpleasantness to be endured. Here in Tucson,
we celebrate it (quite often going out to dance in it).
.
.
I do believe I STILL have a bit of a crush on Lucy Kaplansky.

4. Lucky you.
We haven't had any measurable rain in 5 months plus a record 76 days of 100+ temps(old record was 69 days in 1925) this summer.

5. The best.
We have metal roofs on all three of our buildings, the house has plywood under the metal and of course ceilings, so the best place to get "caught" in a shower is the barn. I confess to sometimes needing to go do something at the corrals when rain seem imminent.:)

6. Yes, finally after a summer of no rain here in North Georgia,
I am finally hearing rain on the roof. We are getting the remnants of tropical storm Lee.
