4. Five is a bit much - usual litter is 2 - 4.
They're probably around a month old or so (early winter and late summer is when most kits are born), and from my experiance in Seattle, where they're as common as pigeons, this is when they usually leave the nest, but they're usually still hanging out around Mom until October, when they have learned enough Squirrel Lore to get around without getting eaten or hit by vehicles.
From their activity, it sounds as if they're imprinting on you, which may not be very safe for them. Yes, they're cute, friendly, and sociable - and could probably get along with your dog, as soon as he learns not to eat them, but they will also get very - ah - fearlessly insistant, and if they decide they want to build a nest in your attic, or floorboards, they can be very destructive.

The primary concerns would be disease. They carry ticks and fleas, and if you're going to let them adopt you as mommy, you might want to ask a vet about Frontline type topical flea products for pet rodents like guinea pigs or rabbits and see if they can handle a regular application. (hey, enough treats, and they will accept anything)

If you're still in the area that's listed on your profile, you might want to contact
Costal Wildlife Rescue Center -
