HELP! Advice needed about a possible stolen Credit Card.
I just got an email from Play.com confirming a $300 order for a QuickCam and a Hitachi hard drive. The confirmation stated that payment was by credit card. I didn't order those things and have never heard of Play.com. The first thing I did was email the company with the order number and I told them that I had not ordered these things and to cancel the order. The second thing I did was check to make sure I had my 2 credit cards and the third thing I did was to check my credit card accounts on line to see if this charge showed up. It hasn't. Is there anything else I should do at this point?

1. Call the credit card company and report it! That's the first
thing you should have done.

good luck.

2. Yes.
You need to call the credit card issuer's 24 hour toll free number and ask to talk to someone in their fraud/loss prevention department, and tell them that you card may have been compromised. They can do several things -- possibly put the account under a "fraud watch" or even close that number and issue a new card with a new number.

Mine was stolen in July -- the number, not the physical card -- and I had to have it closed and reissued. And, the fraudulent charges did NOT show up on my online statement for a number of days, which is weird, since regular charges show up almost immediately.

Definitely let you card company know that there may be a potential problem. You don't want to face the possibility, although remote, that you'll be on the hook for the charges.

5. Really? Play.com? I googled the company and it looked legit but
I didn't open the attachment, thank God. Thanks for the tip off!

6. Update on this...I talked to my son, Will, about the invoice I

received and he googled "Play.com scam" and up popped a half a dozen blogs on this scam. It appears that Plan.com may be an innocent victem in this. It looks as if someone got my email address and sent the bogus invoice hoping that I would open the link contained in that invoice to get more detail about it. That's exactly what I almost did but my computer security system warned me not to. I have the figure that the link contained some sort of virus or something. I guess from now on anytime I get something that looks suspicious I'll google it and put "spam" at the end.
