1. I haven't read the book, but I'm looking forward to the movie.
I just don't have the time to read all the books I'd like to. I saw Jennifer Lawrence in "Winter's Bone" and she was fantastic. I'm guessing she's got a long and successful career ahead of her if she continues to pick roles like that. I heard that "Hunger Games" was a great book, but I'll probably see the movie for her more than anything.
The movies were also great. I just may have to read "Hunger Games" now. I guess I was a little turned off by the "Young Adult" label. With the Twilight novels, I'd have been a little embarrassed to read something in that particular genre. But I love reading about dystopian futures and one of my favorite Stephen King stories growing up was "The Long Walk", which "Hunger Games" seems to bear some resemblance to. I think you've convinced me.
5. It's labeled "YA," but do not let that stop you!
The only thing this series might have in common with the Tripe of Twilight is that they're both written in English. Some of the most intelligent fiction today is labeled "YA," and I'm not entirely sure why. Some Neil Gaiman is considered "YA." I also urge you to check out the novels of China Mieville. Great stuff.
7. This is going to sound weird coming from someone who likes Mieville's work

but the Hunger Games just sounds too disturbing. And I do enjoy a lot of YA fiction. But I'm too afraid to give HG a try. ETA oops, meant this as a reply to OP.
