I don't have to live in that part of the world to know this...just about any soil stain will come out after enough washings with scrubbing and pre-treatments between...if the garment is not dried. Once dried, you've "baked-in" the stain and it's permanent. Unless the color you were thinking of dyeing was red-clay, it's probably going to show through too.
But I wouldn't have let them air-dry either. I'd have kept them damp, if not wet. Have you tried elbow-grease? I find that pre-treaters work better if I work them in...I have an old toothbrush for this purpose. It works some of the stain out even as it works the pre-treat in.
