I need grease to exist
So, I made this HEALTHY, delicious soup, all fresh veggies, no meat, but used chicken stock. Cabbage, corn, broccoli, mushrooms, thinly sliced potatoes, yellow squash, finely chopped jalapenos, onions, celery, carrots ...

I've given most of it away. I want SPICE, grease, chicken fried chicken tenders with Louisianna hot sauce ...

I'm hopeless.

:eyes:

1. That's easy,
Add some low-fat smoked sausage (yes, this is a real product...it's in your supermarket. Hillshire Farms makes one.), a few dashes of the hot sauce and add back in the chicken, a little bit...stick to the dark meat. Also add something that will retain some crunch. Diakon maybe? Nix the cabbage next time.

The result will taste much better and still be healthy. Something somewhere between a Jamaican Cock Soup and a French Pot Au Feu. Serve with some crusty bread, omit butter.

3. Daikon is very similar in flavor...
except it stays crunchy like raw celery, you'd add it closer to the end though...including both might be too much. There were plenty of other soft vegetables there, the crunch was to improve mouthfeel. That's a huge part of the palatablity of food. Ever have someone tell you they love peas and hate pea soup? That's a mouthfeel issue. They taste the same and yet many people can't stomach pea soup because it's mushy like baby food.

4. Try adding a huge can of blanced tomatoes next time. Tomatoes have
natural msg in them and that should up the wow factor. Chicken stock with blanched tomatoes makes a great base for a veg soup. Add cauliflower too.

6. My soup was literally delicious,
very tasty, I'm a pretty fair cook. My point wasn't that the soup needed to taste better, it was that I am hooked on all things not particularly healthy - fried chicken tenders, steak, roasts & brown gravies, etc. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I love cauliflower, too. The veggies were a result of what I had on hand.

7. Giving up the foods you love in the name of eating healthy is never fun but...
why not just eat those foods in moderation and get at least an hour a day of exercise and then no worries?
