It's getting serious on the Outer Banks
They're putting protective cages on the lighthouses to keep them from falling over

1. Ahhh, it's just a little breeze!
Come down to the Gulf Coast if you want to see a REAL storm.

:hi:

5. Yeah, but we can really understand how scary it is to have these things coming toward you, no?
East Coasters have had their share of knowing what we Gulf Coast and West Coasters live with the threat of all the time, quakes and hurricanes and all. I feel for them.

Canned goods, water, MANUAL can opener, DON'T grill in the house or apt., do have a grill for the outdoors or fire escape, cook the stuff from the fridge first, freezer second and canned goods thir, don't open that freezer, freeze a bunch of water so you'll have cold water, fill the cars now, don't forget the pet food and water, fill the prescriptions, put all paperwork in something waterproof, and a host of other things to make living without power in extreme heat bearable.

7. I do sympathize with them. It's scary to know a monster is coming.
And good tips! Add to that, have plenty of batteries for flashlights/lanterns. And a CAR CHARGER for your cell phone (assuming there's cell service).

:hi:

8. I may be getting a little PTSD-ish here. Katrina hit me hard even though I wasn't there.
Lots of family and all I ever knew growing up. People generally okay but, well, you know how truly awful it was. Now I can't turn off the Weather Channel and CNN.

Oh well...

9. I was in Madison MS for Katrina.
160 miles inland, and it was still a Cat 2 storm when it came through. I've never seen winds like that.

It still freaks me out.

11. I know. My sister is a 911 operator in the Jackson area.
When the systems went down on the coast the calls routed to them. She spent days getting calls from desperate, trapped people that no one could get to. And their electricity went down in the area and the station's generators were limited so they had no TV. She'd call me, I'd watch CNN and tell her what was going on and she'd talk to me about the horror of getting all those calls. They'd sent officers there who they lost track of (they literally tied themseves to trees to survive, but survived) and none of us knew who was alive and who was dead. I was a horror show.

I do hope Obama goes home and takes care of his people. America, I mean.

10. The best escape route from where that photo was taken is to go north to Nags Head
Then turn left and keep going a couple hundred miles.

Shame on you for your lack of knowledge of Dare County geography!
