On the crappy timing of hurricanes..

So,
My Mom (85) is taking my kid sis & me on her, I guess, bucket list trip to Alaska. We'll be taking a Nat'l Geo. boat around the coastal waterways and then go up to Denali Nat'l Park for a few days.

We have been planning this expedition for nearly two years.

Here's the rub. I'm supposed to leave LaGuardia tomorrow at noon. I live on the South Shore of LI, on one of the barrier beaches.

It would be a damn shame to cancel a trip that you've been planning for so long! :mad:

I also hope my pet-sitting client is able to fly to Maine from Richmond, VA tomorrow morning at 7:00. They have a cabin up there, and his wife has been there for several weeks. He's supposed to go meet her and stay another couple of weeks.
He has already paid me (in advance - in case the banks are closed for a few days), and I've already paid some bills online with the money! I don't know what we'll do if he cancels. :cry:

4. airports usually stay open til winds hit tropical storm force (39mph sustained)

And it doesn't look like tropical storm force winds are going to happen. Have fun in ak.

Edit: I should add that just because the airport is running doesn't mean your airline didn't cancel the flight so check there before leaving.

We had a similar vacation situation in Tampa years back but with just a tropical storm out in the Gulf
Heard the airport would shut down the monorail that takes folks from the main terminal to the airsides if there were gusts over 40
Got up at 4 am and told hubby to get his stuff together, we were leaving for the airport
Our flight wasn't to leave until 6pm but I wasn't taking chances and he got on the horn to confirm us on the 3pm
We left at 10am on standby on the first available Continental flight to Denver
Lots of standbys looking for space on the earlier flights

7. I just heard all transportation (airports not included) will be shutting down tomorrow at noon.

There will be no incoming flights to JFK after noon tomorrow.

Get on the phone with your airline RIGHT ****ING NOW!!
