My most unique birthday gift...EVER.
Miz t. found this at T.J. Maxx.

250,000,000 YEAR OLD SALT
HimalaSalt is the only Ethically Sourced, Artisan Made Pink Himalayan Sea Salt that is Kosher Certified, Green-e Certified (made by 100% renewable wind and solar energy), sustainably packaged, with 5% of profits going to the environment and back to the source community.
HimalaSalt™ was created 250 million years ago, during a time of pristine environmental integrity. Hand-harvested from a protected source deep within the exotic and remote Himalayas, HimalaSalt remains free of impurities, unlike refined table salt or salt from today's widely polluted oceans.

Why is it so cool? It's gorgeous on the table, displayed on a block of wood, marble, a Japanese dish, a piece of bamboo... it's easy to grate, but more importantly, is the taste. The super-fine powder (akin to powdered sugar) you get from grating is the perfect finishing salt for all sorts of dishes, including desserts. Himalayan Salt's flavor really blossoms when finely grated - you get to taste the sweet, salty, all the subtle nuances of the essential trace elements... this is what salt is supposed to taste like, with a sweet, mild aftertaste.

It's artisan carved from the purest selected pink Himalayan sea salt crystals, the HimalaSalt Zen Cube brings elegance, tranquility, and a bit of zen fun to your meals, in addition to being the perfect finishing salt for edamame, salads, steamed greens, pastas, bread dipped in oils, and more! Grater made of high grade Italian stainless. Each cube is hand-carved and varies in size, yet each one weighs approximately 1lb.

1. I appreciate good salt
That is a beautiful gift. I took a salt taste test when I was younger, I appreciate good salt and have tried the pink HimalaSalt. I buy different types of salt, well, except after the radiation scare from Japan, I bought regular iodized. Many people wouldn't understand. Glad you had a good 70th and that the hang-over wasn't too bad :).

2. Lovely. How do you store it?
Here in Florida, I'd be afraid humidity would dissolve it, even in an 'airtight container'.

3. 250 million years ago during a time of pristine environmental integrity" Uh, the Permian Extinction?
Edited on Tue Aug-23-11 10:07 PM by Odin2005
That wasn't a period of environmental integrity.

The rest of that sounds like New Age marking crap.

Looks cool, though.

The "natural sea salt is good for you" is BS straight from the number 1 quack himself, Mercola.

6. Cramming that many buzzwords together in the same sentence is comical.

In any case I like good salt and this might be a fun novelty but I had to laugh at the marketing effort here. I guess they've aimed at the "last minute gift" demographic.

4. Okay, I hate to say it but that looks suspiciously like one of the salt licks we use for the horses
at my farm.... 2.5 lbs for $15.

Just saying....

5. Yup, I'm very suspicious of this stuff. A lot of the folks that buy this stuff are very gullible.
