I am fixing fried okra for dinner, fresh from the garden.
My okra plants really liked this dry hot weather.

I have enough frozen okra for a year now.

I also have a pot of lima beans in the crock pot, good eating.

1. I wish I could grow Okra here in Michigan
Our climate is too cool for it most years. It sulks, barely grows, and in the end you get a handful. Add in the fact that animals love to eat it, and it's just too hard.

2. This year has been really dry but the okra didn't care.
Okra freezes well.

Store bought okra is ok but home grown seems to taste better.

My dog loves fried okra, she watches when I fry it.

She likes it a little burnt.

15. Give up the method of how to batter/cut and deep fry that okra!
LOL! Do you freeze it after deep frying? I love fried okra.

23. I just pick the okra and slice it up.
I freeze it right away in small ziplock bags.

When I am ready to fry I just thraw out a bag and toss in some cornmeal.

Shake the bag and the cornmeal will stick to the okra.

I fry in a Fry Daddy but a deep pan will do.

The okra was good today.

14. Just fry it in cornmeal, not under or over fried.
I use a deep fryer so it fries fast.

16. Thanks. I will
try it. I like cornmeal as a breading, so I might even find fried okra tasty.

If I don't, you'll be hearing from me. lol

8. I LOVE okra
Fried, boiled, cooked down eaten just like that for a side or use it for gumbo. It's funny though, I don't like pickled okra.

10. Okra is like a weed.
It will grow almost anywheres.

I pick the okra everyday, it will grow to large otherwise.

17. I've been wanting to try this baked okra recipe.
Baked Okra
Recipe adapted, Ethnic Spicy Food and More

Ingredients:
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup yellow corn muffin mix
1 pound okra
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Non-stick spray

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450-degrees.

2. Wash and cut tops off okra. Slice okra in half lengthwise. Pour milk into bowl, add sliced okra, and coat okra thoroughly.

3. In a plastic bag, place the corn muffin mix, cayenne pepper and kosher salt. Using a slotted spoon, take the okra out of the bowl of cream and allow the excess to drip. Add the okra to the plastic bag mixture, close, and shake to coat evenly.

4. On a nonstick baking or cookie sheet, spray the pan with cooking spray. Spread the okra evenly into a single layer. Cook until crisp and brown in color, about 15 minutes. Turn okra halfway through cooking.

5. Serve immediately.

Notes: Hot sauce is good with this.

26. J for jealous..
The one year I grew okra it was kinda pathetic. I'm a better gardener now though, next year I might try again!

My neighbor a few houses down has sooooo much okra growing this year, right in his front yard, huge plants, it's just beautiful.
