2. How Americans see the British: As English.
And probably from London. If they aren't from some quaint village with a name like Nether Wallop (which is in fact a real place). And either as some sort of Lord Haw Haw with a posh accent who says things like "I say" and "bloody good show, what?" or as an Andy Capp type in a tweed jacket and flat cap who spends most of his time down the pub drinking warm flat beer and playing darts.

How the British see Americans: as loud, overbearing, arrogant, ignorant, ill-mannered rednecks. Picture the average stereotyped chauvinistic Texan and you've pretty much got it. Also, even worse than sore losers; sore winners: "we saved your asses in WWII!" (which, actually...no). Also as very violent and probably armed. With guns. Maybe several guns. And driving around in large SUVs while eating something that consists mostly of layers of cheese sandwiched between layers of bacon.

3. Well, with the current crop of presidential candidates, can you blame them?
Personally, I blame our corrupt fourth estate for even giving these lunatics creedence.

And then there is the word presidential. How that word can even be applied to this group of assholes is beyond me.

6. Oh, enough of the Ugly American Stereotype, please!
I spend 5 years in London, moved there in 1974 as a child of 19 and was naively impressed with what I thought was Brit erudite sophistication. Since then, I've noticed plenty of 'em behaving far worse than Americans when they travel. Most of us who go to Europe are trying our best to not come across as arrogant, manifest-destiny types, whereas I've watched Brits in Spain, Italy, France, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, Netherlands, etc behave like complete heathens. They get upset when the tea isn't brewed properly, when they can't find their fry-ups and bangers and the beer is too cold. Or else, they love acting all Continental, pretending a sophistication they don't really have in order to deny their working class roots. (And the man from Liverpool told us all we're still f***in' peasants. He was right.)

And the Brits aren't the only ones who act badly in foreign lands. I've run into Italians, French, Ukrainians, and many Germans who make us Yanks look like bloody pillars of etiquette. So yes, I get that this is satire and yes, I cracked up, but I want people to know we're not despised in Europe, and most travelers from here to there are far better informed than days past.

Now, if only the Euro would drop a few cents to its ACTUAL value so I can go back to Rome for a blowout holiday, I'd be happy! :bounce:
