1. Close some windows
Quit some programs
Delete things off your hard drive

2. How old is the computer?
Once you do all the things REP suggested, if you're still having issues the next step is to install more RAM.

That's fairly easy to do but the upper limit of how much you can add are determined by the type of RAM slots on your motherboard, the older the board the less powerful the RAM you can install. If we're talking more than 5 years old, it's probably not cost/effectiveness worthwhile to do and you should consult with a trusted computer-hardware professional to assess whether it's something worth doing for the model of your machine.

Installing the RAM is easy once you open the computer, it's a lot like changing the video game cartridges in a old 8-bit Nintendo; Pull out the old ones and plug in the new ones, making sure you hold the RAM cards by their edges so that you don't damage them.

4. What version of Windows? WHat kind of PC.
Like you have a lot of crap running in background which could be eliminated. You could try downloading CCleaner, http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER.

5. When you say error messages about memory, do you mean they're
coming from your computer itself, or through the email system? If you're using a web mail system of some sort, it's possible that you've filled up your allocated storage space, and you need to delete old sent and saved messages. On the other hand, a lot of those messages are scams - don't send anyone your password, credit card, bank account number (even if it is a request from the friendly 'HELP DSEK' :) )...

7. If you really need RAM, you need first to figure out what kind you need, based on your
computer. For most people, that means: what is the EXACT make and model? From that, you can usually find out what's been tested as compatible -- or at least you can discover details like number of pins, voltage, speed, timing, CAS latency .... And once you know exactly what your options are, you can start shopping
