3. It's really one of the best things about flying
I always want a window seat for that reason

Some great geology is visible from the air, too

4. My dear struggle4progress!
It is!

My husband and I have the perfect arrangement. He wants the aisle, and I want the window!

Once, we were flying over the Grand Canyon, and I didn't have my camera out. I have never stopped kicking myself for that...

It would have made some really interesting pics, damn it!

Thanks for your comments...

The sky is always fascinating.

I'm glad you enjoyed these!

That last picture is of a river, or some sort of body of water. I thought it would make a cool picture!

It is not a cloud, lol, and that's why I labelled it *something else*...

Thanks for stopping by!

Wow!

That looks like a storm of some sort, with its anvil-like shape. Do you know where you were when you took those?

Alas, I have no idea...someplace in the "flyover" section of the country, I think...

Our plane didn't come with the nifty screen that shows you where you are...

Glad you enjoyed!

15. It's a mix of peace and turbulence, just like life...
...especially in that second photo. On one hand, I see white, fluffy clouds, but on the other, I see the shadows and the angular shapes cutting in and out of the white.

I was finishing my BA Degree at San Jose State while my dad was dying of cancer. One of the general ed classes I had to take was Meteorology, and VERY close to the end, when he was on the morphine drip and receiving 24 hour home care, we were studying the different cloud types. It was perhaps the single greatest "WHO CARES" moment of my life. Nimbus? Cumulonimbus? WHO GIVES A FUCK?

I took that class and a creative writing class...both at night...during that semester. I know the instructor of the Meteorology class gave me a "Mercy C" for a grade. I told both professors what was happening. When I told the English professor her immediate reaction was "WHY ARE YOU HERE?" The Meteorology professor did her best to not have any reaction at all.

So when I see clouds, I tend to think of those days.

Great pix.

Oh, thank you for the great quote! It's perfect...

I just LOVE clouds...especially when it's lousy and gray here on the ground, and then after we swing up in our aluminum tube, we see the glorious sun and all those bumpy cloudy cushions...

It's magic.

Thank you!

They are so beautiful, and yet so ephemeral...

30. Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now

From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

(J. Mitchell)

Ah, I love that song!

In fact, if you click on Xipe Totec's post upthread, you'll see that he posted a YouTube of her singing that very one!

So as soon as I saw the lyrics you posted, the melody popped into my head...

Thank you for your contribution!
