Do you ever want to leave DU?

I guess I just so sick of "our" side beating up and democrats and the POTUS that I just don't know if my time here is wasted. I know I need a break, and I do not spend all day on the internet, but really I do spend to much time.

ugh..

I wonder what would a week be like with out the internet. I'm thinking back to 98 when I was computer and internet free. I guess I was less informed, but not by much. I'm trying to think if the internet is healthy at all.

7. I took off about 5 months

My MIL was dying of cancer. She was a magnificent woman but she was also one of the hated "them". A conservative and a religiously minded one at that. But she was still a wonderful, loving person and her loss hurt many people, including me. I couldn't reconcile that in my mind with some of the ugliness that is indiscriminately flung around here on any given day. Family loyalty to good people trumps politics in my book.

As for the politics and criticism.

I definitely agree about the beating up of our own. There's a fashionable, easy sense of cynicism when it comes to politics and politicians that makes me wonder why anybody would ever put themselves out there as a candidate. I'm one of the few that still thinks that most of our public officials really do have the public good in mind, even when I disagree with what they do. I'm all for being informed and having an opinion, but the anger aimed at public institutions isn't doing anybody any favors, and quite plausibly could be contributing to the budget-cutting hysteria.

The Lounge is nice, though. Just don't ask about the fried chicken.
