I am utterly freaked out. This is hands down the strangest thing I've ever experienced.
If I didn't have my sister on the phone while this was happening, no one would believe what has just happened. If someone told me this, I would think they were making it up because it is so freaking unbelievable. I am absolutely shaking.

Before I relate the freaky part, I have to give some background which adds to the total weirdness.

I had just come home from my sister's workplace after having had lunch with her. I went to her office because she wanted to show me a bear she bought for my Mom's 84th birthday today. The bear is very cute and when you push it's paws, The Beatles birthday song is played and a cake the bear is holding lights up with the message 'Happy Birthday'. A very cute bear and I hadn't heard that song in years. Nothing wierd so far.

Anyway when I got home I was looking for a file from an astrology site about August 3rd birthdays (paulsadowski.org). As soon as I opened the file, the same Beatles birthday song (no words just music)came blaring on the radio which was odd because I was listening to Jazz FM 91 and they don't play this sort of music. I checked to see if the dial had moved as the radio is right beside me. It hadn't. When I tried to turn volume down, the volume didn't work. When the song ended the volume control worked again.

At that point it was strange but not totally freaking bizarre. The bizarre started when within 3 to 5 minutes the song came on again and again the volume control didn't work. At this point I called my sister and she couldn't believe that she was hearing the song she had just played for me 20 minutes earlier.

As I we talked the song ended, the volume control worked again and another song came on. I then asked her to print out the page as I don't have a printer and told her where to go. At that moment the freaking song came on again. I kid you not. For a third time the very same song came on again, and again it was blaring, and again the volume control didn't work. At this point we are both effing stunned.

After she hung up, I called Jazz FM 91 and checked their Play list. That song is NOT on their Play list.

I am shaking here. I am utterly utterly freaked out.

This is what my beloved Goldschneider and Elffers call the August 3rd birthday.

Yes, I feel the Sadowski site is well known. Some New Agers consider it a little, well, silly, but I think it's great. And user friendly enough to be useful every day.

7. Maybe, someone is trying to get a message to you...
from beyond this world. I'm not all goofy about this stuff, but when my sister died a friend gave us a "memory bell". We hung it out in a quiet place as it had a strong chime and we didn't want it ringing all the time. Three years later my Mother died and the bell went nuts. It would ring when there was no breeze, when the family was together, when you walked by it. We got so used to it we would answer it with a, "Hi Mom and Nancy, miss you guys". It became very comforting.

My father got sick and his kidneys failed on the day of my mother's funeral. We cared for him at home doing dialysis for 7 months. The night he fell and we were called next door to help him I walked out to run to him and the bell was ringing off the hook. It was that night that he refused any more dialysis and he died 7 days later. The bell still rings, mostly at seasonal times which we used to spend together (spring gardening, 4th of July, anniversaries) and we all do the same thing, we acknowledge and remember our loved ones who have passed. I love that bell.

47. I'm open to any rational explanation. I was listening to a radio. The song played 3 times.
Edited on Fri Aug-05-11 02:37 PM by snagglepuss
When the song was on the volume didn't work. The song was interspersed with regular programming i.e. jazz. My sister heard it twice. The song was not on the station's play list and the DJ has confirmed he didn't play it. The closest station on the dial is 90 miles away and the reception is so bad that one can't make out what DJs are saying.

So what's the rational explanation?

10. The radio is separate from the computer. I came upon the paulsadowski
website after googling birthdate aug 3, 1927 as I wanted to find something quirky for my Mom's birthday. I didn't know about the site and only was there only long enough to read the page pertaining to my Mom's birthdate. I didn't provide the link in the OP as the site seems incidental to what happened.

When I google paulsadowski, I get his home page

http://www.paulsadowski.com/

Scrolling down the page you'll find a link to his birthdate calculator.

17. That IS really weird!
Is there another FM station that plays rock music, next to Jazz FM 91 on the dial? I listen to an FM radio station from a city about 60 miles from here, but sometimes its signal is temporarily overpowered by a rock station close to it on the FM band, from a city 20 miles away. It comes in much louder, sometimes I can't even fine-tune the radio to get the weaker signal of my station back. Maybe a rock station had a cluster of the Beatles' birthday song requests after they played it once.

Did you and your sister celebrate your mom's birthday with her yesterday evening? I looked at the bear on You Tube, it's cute and the hologram "Happy Birthday" is cool!

20. At 91.7 there is a rock station but it's 90 miles away and the level of static
makes listening impossible. That said I've emailed the host asking if by chance the Beatles birthday song was played yesterday afternoon. It seems like a stretch since this has never happened before but I'd be more than happy to find a rational explanation. I may feel stupid but I'll be happy.

As for the bear, it is truly sweet.

always been intersted in the esoteric took the story in stride. My brother who is Mr Skeptic thought I simply was spinning an entertaining tale but I asked him how it could be just a yarn when my sister heard the song herself come on twice, he had no reply.

Yesterday I got a reply from the DJ who said the song wasn't played so this is one wierd story.

And did you happen to try unplugging the radio any times that the song came up? That's incredibly bizarre, but there very well could be a rational explanation for it.

19. As stupid as it sounds, initially I walked around my desk to see if
it was coming from my answering machine as I was wondering if my sister somehow circumvented the ring and was playing a prank (which was nonsensical as she has the same bare bones computer skills as I). It definitely was coming from the radio as I don't play music on my computer and don't have a TV.

When it started the second time, I still assumed it was part of the broadcast schedule and that it was simply a very strange coincidence that my volume control wasn't working and that the song was being repeated. At that point my first thought was to call my sister so she could hear it. Since I had no doubt it was coming from the radio, it didn't occur to me to turn it off. There is absolutely no other place the music could have come from and I had to hold the phone near the speakers for my sister to hear it clearly.

This morning after thinking about it, I wondered if the host interjected the song for someone celebrating a birthday. That is a stretch because I've been a long time listener and this station doesn't do that sort of thing and if it did I'd imagine they'd either play a jazz rendition or at the very least not repeat a rock rendition 3 times. Anyway, I emailed the host asking if by chance the song was inserted on a whim yesterday. Hopefully he'll respond back.

If the song wasn't played on air then I can't see there being any rational explanation. I heard the song 3 times, my sister heard it twice.

21. It's the lack of volume control that gets me.
If you were unable to adjust the volume, and just for those periods of time when the song was playing, you can be nearly sure that the DJ is not going to tell you that the song was played.

who states that he didn't play The Beatles' birthday song once let alone 3 times yesterday afternoon. Three times the song played on the radio within a space of 20 minutes, my sister was on the phone when it was playing the 2nd time and when it came back on the 3rd time. Where was the song coming from?

32. My sister thought it was my father who passed August 8, 2007. She's always
thought he forced himself to survive till her birthday. Several hours ago I got a reply from the DJ stating he didn't play the song yesterday as I wondered whether he may have played it on a whim to celebrate someone's birthday.

What is so weird is that it was such a normal afternoon,it was such a weird thing to happen so suddenly without any strange vapors, unusual drafts, or unaccountable sounds that one might imagine would accompany a strange inexplicable event;)

Very good to hear that weird stuff doesn't portend something terrible. That would make sense as it seems like a jovial prank rather than something ominous. What was a coincidence is that my mom said she had been for looking forward all afternoon yesterday to watching 20/20's show that aired last night called Beyond Belief about people who say they experienced life after death.

Altogether it was a very strange day.

40. I'm inclined to agree.
I think sometimes good-freaky stuff happens to!

Immediately after my (then) father-in-law died, the street lamp right next to their house stayed on day and night for a couple of weeks or so (as I can recall). A couple of crews came out from the Electrical Company and couldn't explain it!

Maybe there is some kind of connection with the fact that your mom wanted to watch that show: "Beyond Belief", which, if you think about the song incident...is kind of ironic!

There is a guy by the name of John Edward who used to have a show entitled: "Crossing Over" that I used to watch. I am usually pretty skeptical about these sorts of things, but I think that Edward might be for real.

Many times on his show he would receive messages from someone on the *other side* and the details he sometimes related were jaw-dropping.

Typically really, really, REALLY obscure, detailed stuff that only the one who passed and the one who was *living* could possibly ever know. Sometimes it was noted that the ones on the other side apparently still have a sense of humor too!

Though I can understand how this would shake you up...maybe just see it as the other poster has said...as a good-freaky thing!

(Hey - at least it wasn't Helter Skelter!!!) :-)

By the way, Former astronaut, Edgar Mitchell has been delving into these types of "fringe topics" since his epiphany in space: (video is about a minute long:)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zSO3jE4l-M&feature=related

He has founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences or "IONS" and it's interesting when you consider his scientific, rational background.

33. Not that I know of. Someone down thread suggested that a nearby channel
may have been playing the song. The next channel up plays classic rock but the static interference is so bad that it's next to impossible to hear anything. Even though it seems unlikely I heard anything from that channel, I have emailed the DJ to ask if he aired The Beatles birthday song. A few hours ago,I got a reply from JazzFM's DJ saying he wasn't playing that song as I had emailed him as well.

34. Musical Ear Syndrome (MES)
is a type of auditory hallucination. It's more commonly experienced by people with hearing impairment and the elderly than by other people, but it can affect anyone.

http://musicalearsyndrome.com/

Here's a snip from another article about MES:

"My wife hears music that is not there," Harry writes. "The first song she heard was Silent Night sung by a very good choir of mostly men. It came in quite loud. A day later it was the Vienna Waltz over and over again so clear it was like being at a musical production."
