What's a good gift for a 4 year old girl?
It is for her birthday.

A lot of people are already getting her Barbie stuff which she has a ton of anyway.

She is my little shadow when I'm visiting her parents, and I'd like to get her something not Barbie.

Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks!!

:hi:

1. When my girls were four they loved jewelry
Glittery fun stuff. They definitely get into the princess stuff at that age. One of my girls wore her Cinderella ballgown every day for a month. Dress up clothes, jewelry, stuff like that.

2. Imaginative play stuff.
Costumes; pretend food, appliances, or tools; hand puppets.

If there is room in the house where she lives, kids that age love the big, cardboard blocks to build structures as big as they are and knock them down:

Think about the play "stations" you often see in a preschool classroom. Preschool teachers know the drill.

Have fun shopping! :)

5. She doesn't really have the room for that.
Too bad, because that would be way fun!

I'm going to go crazy shopping, I'm sure. :)

Flitter fairies might be better for an older child, but my neighbor's 3-year-old really likes hers.

9. legos (the building sets, not the stupid already-made toys)
matchbox or similar cars

bug house or other natural history type (or any science) items

books

books

books

animal toys - horses tend to be favorites with girls but that does risk the lifelong desire for a real one, not that it is a bad thing. just depends how it is handled - can be great responsibility lessons or can lead to spoiled assholes (same with the horses:rofl: )

art supplies

books

14. I gave my 4 & 6 year old grand children a boxed set of..
"Little House on the Prairie" for Xmas year before last. They said it was the best present they got.

Their parents loved it also. Every night the whole family watched one episode. It was dinner table conversation, motivation to do their chores and get their baths done early.

The whole family was very sad when they had gone through every season.

My daughter and son in law said it actually brought them closer together because they had something they all liked to talk about.

I got them "The Waltons" this past Xmas but it is a little too mature for them yet. They will watch that in a couple of years when they are old enough.

It really is a great gift!

liked to play dress up - and she really enjoyed bath stuff. Bubble bath. Scented stuff. Lots of different scented things and different scents. And flavored lip gloss. And pink and purple.

21. A chainsaw and a flamethrower
Seriously, an easel and some washable paints. The kind of modeling clay that can be baked in an oven. Or construction stuff, like blocks or Lincoln logs or legos.

She'll get enough Barbies, and other "name brand" toys. Kids need to be encouraged to use their own imaginations more.

She is the creation of my dear friends, a little girl with learning disabilities who leads her classmates to a Bright New World. She is based on the family's older daughter Tara who is Autistic, and composed and performed much of the magical music.

27. I always suggest bath toys because it will make it easier on the parents if there is something
the little one can look forward to in the tub. They use to have these little 'blow fish' that would suck up water when you squeeze them underwater and that you could then squirt.

33. picture books about kitties
I found some wonderful picture books about kitties for a birthday recently -- loads and loads of pictures.

Congratulations for refusing to get Barbie stuff. What the hell does a 4-year-old need with that cheap crap, anyway? Please try to find something that affirms her as a thinking person, not a robotic consumer.

:-)

37. my daughter is four. She does not own any Barbie stuff.
This time of year, outside toys are great. Stuff for the beach...or, we just ordered some roller skates for the peanut. The kind made by fischer price that snap on to sneakers, comes with knee and elbow pads and have Tinkerbell on them, and she just got her first bike.

38. Arts/Crafts stuff she can wear
My daughter loved to make bracelets, crowns and necklaces ... really anything that she could wear and tell people that she made. If its someone you know well, offer to set up a date and help her make the jewelry. You can each wear something you made. It will be special for her and you.
