Would you buy a factory refurbished external hard drive?
Usually I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy a factory refurbished product, but for some reason I'm hesitant to buy a refurb hard drive.

MrsCoffee would execute me gangland-style if it failed and we lost photos. I know that any drive could fail, but it would be entirely my fault if a refurb drive failed, because why did I buy a refurb drive in the first place?

So am I being oddly/wrongfully distrustful of a refurb hard drive?

1. What usually fails in external drives is not the drive itself.
It's just about always the drive power/interface board inside the case in my experience. Every time I cracked the case open and removed the drive and connected it with my adapter the drive was fine and I was able to read the data. I got one that I put in a new case and it's still working two years later.
