Mr. dixie got to chime in, he appreciated all the input, and he is a huge Pratchett fan.

Cat's name is..........Boson.
which really suits him, if you could see that slightly doofus expression on his face.

Runner up name was Jack, we may have his name on the vet records as Jack Boson.

Thank all y'alls!
:yourock: :yourock: :yourock:

Here is a pic I got off web, looks like him: ( but he is VERY long and VERY lean)

7. He earned a nickname when he leaped on a counter and broke a teapot.
Was during a "squirrelly" moment he was having.
Mr. Dixie wanted Boson, I will prolly call him Bozo...close enough, yes?

8. Apparently the silver blue color is often confused with the Russian Blue breed.
So I had to look that breed up.
Ours has golden eyes too, and in a certain light you can see his "raccoon" tail, and make out the tabby markings in his forehead.
Russian Blues have deep green eyes and are chunkier than this long lean lanky guy we have.
Still, a gorgeous gray, the first one like him I have ever had.

9. Yep mine also have some faint tabby markings, Smokie has a raccoon tail indeed.
At one point the vet thought they would both be tabby's but the markings faded.

10. Here is a CFA article about the Russian Blue.
http://www.cfa.org/Client/russian.aspx

I used to have one. He had the emerald eyes, somewhat slender build, and that wonderful plush silver gray coat. He was rather more outgoing than Russian Blues usually are, perhaps because he had been a stray. A great cat. :)

6. Well, I will pronounce it Bozo, when Mr. D is not looking,
but Mr. Dixie will call him BO-SON, after a cat in a Terry Pratchett book or series of books, which Mr. Dixie is a fan of.
As I said in the thread where I asked for input,( and got delightful input, funny stuff, funny pics, too)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x9745097#9745860

the cat is either the most laid back mellow feline I have ever seen, or he was dropped on his head as a kitten.
He WAS smart enough to grow up to be a year old, and find our house, and move himself in.
The strange part was our large male dog and our "king" male cat just kinda scooched over and made room for him,
without any fuss. Weird, very weird.

20. Ahhhhhh.....
Mr. Dixie's forte......he who has been delving into things quantum and Pratchett.

Hmmm..Higgs.....I LIKE that as a name. Almost sorta...British....sounding, and really "fits" the cat.

Can't wait to tell Mr. d when he gets back.

Thank you, all of you who suggested it.
A whole new...dimension...to the cat.

22. Of course if you name him that
You might have a hard time finding him... http://blog.beliefnet.com/news/2011/07/physicists-abuzz-over-new-clues-to-sub-atomic-god-particle.php

But I love the name "Higgs Boson" for a cat or a dog. Mind if I steal it?

14. He looks just like our long gone cat, Obie
Short for Oberon. Most beautiful, tall, lanky cat you could ever want - as long as he was standing, sitting or laying still. But he was a klutz. No softly padding along, his walk was thud, thud, thud, even on carpet or grass. He could jump high distances but inevitably knocked something off whatever surface he jumped onto.

His redeeming grace was that he was sweet and never cross.

I got him free when I bought a horse. There were a lot of kitties at that barn and the guy offered five free cats with every horse we bought. We bought two horses but only brought home one cat. The man stood in the middle of his barn and called the cats - there were cats solid for a thirty foot diameter around him! All were black or white or some combination except Obie, so we took him home.

Obie lived to about eighteen years old and died in his sleep one night. RIP Obie.

If Boson is half as nice as Obie, you will be a very lucky cat person!

15. Five free cats with every horse!!!!!
Lord, that is funny.

Know what ya mean by "stomper" cat. Had a lil black female, weighed maybe 5 pounds, but stomped.

Yes,you described it well; Boson is indeed tall and lanky, all legs and tail, has not yet grown into his face,
and he has already jumped onto a breadbox and shattered a candle holder already,
I DO hope this is not the start of a phase.:-(

Otherwise is sweet and undemanding, politely waits to be fed.
We shall see what personality develops now that he has been.."tootered" as one of my kids called it years ago.

the thing is, I swore up and down that the only cats I would "get" would be "tuxedo" cats, which in my experience have always been sweet and purring and devoted, and usually semi-long haired, like our beloved Murphy, who rules this house.
But these short hair lanky ones keep showing up at the door. !

16. And the guy had twenty horses for sale - and enough cats to go with them
Seriously - there must have been well over a hundred cats in that barn.

If Boson is like Obie, he will figure out soon enough that he is not graceful. Obie learned not to jump up on surfaces that had objects on them. As he grew up, Obie decided he liked being a barn cat, though back then most of our cats went back and forth between the house and the barn anyway. But I think Obie realized that there were fewer breakables at the barn.

I hope Boson has lots of years to learn to be graceful!

23. Our Manx is all legs and teen attitude
He came to us from a barn kitten rescue. He's a crazy luvbug, but man, he has no idea what the front or back paws are doing when he's on the hunt. He falls out of windows, lands in and on plants and our leather furniture is showing the wear of a cat who doesn't quite have the whole distance thing down. My fix to this situation is a pal/another cat... which probably means I need some sorta therapy. lol
