And Heat index of 112. But I see some showers popping up so I bet the official reporting station doesn't make it there.

50. well, average temp in January
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 12:16 PM by Maine-ah
is around 10 degrees.

lowest in P-land was -11...I'm an hour and a half north of Portland, right on the coast.

That temp was for Poland, not Portland. My bad. Highest temp ever recorded for Maine was 104, in 1911. Lowest -39 in 1943. The average low in January is 12...

51. Yeah, google gives worse results all the time. Just erases history. Do the houses help keep you cool
With the insulation ratings as high as they must be? It seems that might help, just all that stuff outside. I hope your fall starts up on time in September. Just another more month to go, huh?

8. I think so. I don't complain about rain, snow or cold; but the gloom is getting gloomy, ya know?
I don't miss those over a hundred heat index, although I used to work outside in it doing heavy work. Sweat is good. I never seem to sweat anymore and I don't take the sun for granted anymore like I once did. That's why these folks go nuts in the summer, it's a treat.

I think that the reverse is true down south, when I lived there my favorite months were those with a chance of cool dry air from the north. I've come to appreciate both climates. It was something getting used to having 'cold' rain. Where I grew up, when it rained on you it was more like a shower. The Gulf is like a tub bath, I think. The water here is never inviting.

Glad to get a chance to learn about the world everyday, how wonderfully different it is. The native Americans were the smart ones, going north and south to take advantage of the seasons. We seem to be rooted to the ground in our cities and towns. Ah, well.

No fires, thank the weather gods. So far we've had enough (sometimes too much) rain to keep the forests from drying up.

record today:

Record consecutive 100 degree days set at Fort Smith Arkansas...

Today, July 22, is the 18th day in a row that Fort Smith Arkansas
has been 100 degrees or higher. This breaks the all time record for
consecutive days at 100 degrees or higher. The old record was for 17
consecutive days set in July of 1934.
