Did anyone see The Tree of Life?
I was really moved by it. At certain points I was trying not to audibly sob. I had tears streaming down my face as I left the theater. But almost all the people around me we just asking each other questions trying to figure out who was who and what happened.

I'm interested to hear what anyone here thought of this movie.

1. I just searched in DU to see if there was a thread about it
I really want to see it. After hearing on the radio that some people just couldn't understand it, some even left a half-hour into the movie, and some even wanted their money back... then reading what you wrote, I think I will have a similar reaction to yours, and I definitely will go see it, maybe tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think.
Maybe some more DUers will have seen it by now, and will reply to this.

3. Let me know.
It's still running at the not-for-profit cinema where I work (fundraising executive.) We've had a lot of people walk out and ask for their money back. But we're still running it. I guess that's why we're a not-for-profit.

Please do let me know what you think.

:hi:

5. There was an ART theater that posted a sign
telling their patroons that The Tree of Life was a uniquely visionary deeply philosophical film and they should research it before buying tickets as they would NOT be getting their money back.

I will be seeing this but probably in my home theater six months from now.

6. Honestly...
...this all says more about the public than it does about the movie.

I was expecting it to be way more experimental and non-linear from all the talk. In many ways, I thought it was straight forward, just unconventional, and often surprising. Most people just can't digest anything that hasn't been spoon fed to them.

But I would hate for someone to go in expecting it to be really groundbreaking in its unconventionality and then be disappointed to discover it is actually a story about people.

4. Please check in when you do.
I'd love to hear your take on certain scenes and the film as a whole.

7. i saw it about 2 wks ago
i didn't really understand it, but I enjoyed it. The music was excellent and some visual sequences were unbelievable. There was one kind of early on with dramatic opera music that was unlike anything I have ever seen. I predict this will become a classic for watching while high.

About who was who, which son was Sean Penn?

9. Local college paper's movie reviewer said," If you have ever considered buying a ticket to
Transformer 3, if at all possible, do not even place yourself in the same theater complex where Tree of Life is showing. This is not a movie for you."
