Score! Going to see Deep Purple with Satriani opening.
My brother works in the food and beverage biz and scored us a couple of comps for the Saturday night show at the Concord Pavilion. Neat venue. Should be a fun show! :)

4. Great tune!
The walk after the organ section of the intro always gives me chills. Nothing like a strat through a stack of Marshalls! Hope they do this one.

6. My brother went to the NAMM a couple years back and saw him at a private show.
He did the entire Surfing with the Aliens album in order. Stopped between the tunes to talk about each song's inspiration and challenges. My brother said it was like sitting in Satch's livingroom listeng to him play! :)

8. Love Deep Purple. Saw them in concert in South Florida in the '80s.
Great light show. My favorite is this song and I was a strange kind of woman in those years and my name is Nancy.

12. That's the set where Blackmore put his Strat though the lens of a TV Camera.
Amazing show all the way around. Where were you at? We were a little off dead center about 30 yards from the stage.

13. A betting man would place money on him Satriani playing "Smoke" with D.P....
...he played it on the "G3 Live In Japan" album, and he finished the "Battle Rages On" tour with D.P. after Blackmore took a walk. Legend has it that they offered him the full-time gig at the end of the tour and he declined.

16. You win!
They played it next to last and Satch tore it up. I think Morse was cramping in his hands tonight as he was somewhat error prone. He also has this annoying habit of doing an upper register harmonic bend at the end of every little lead run he does. It's not 1990 anymore Steve, learn a new hook. :(

Anyway, the show was great, they opened with Highway Star, did a cool version of Lazy, and did Hush for an encore. Ian Gillan was freaking amazing on vocals considering he's 67 years old!

Satch's set was superb. I'm not generally a fan of 128 note measures, but Satriani has a way playing that many notes with a lot of feeling and it takes you places. Doesnt't hurt that he was flawless. I have no idea how someone can play that many notes and never make a mistake.

Opening act was Ernie and the Automatics. Barry Goudreau (guitar) and Sib Hashian (drums) from the original Boston lineup are part of this band along with Brian Maes (keyboards) and Tim Archibald (bass) from RTZ and Peter Wolf's House Party, on sax was Michael "Tunes" Antunes an original and current member of John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band.
