Paul and I are discussing getting an IPad2. Pros and cons from those who've tried them?
We have a color Nook but Paul finds it a little difficult to work with as it doesn't seem very sensitive under his fingers. We were looking at the IPad2 yesterday and he seemed to be able to get it to work pretty well.

Yes it's a tad pricey (not horribly, but...) and I think that it's worth it if he can get better images, viewing of books, etc.

Thoughts?

1. We gave my little brother an iPad 2 for his 40th birthday,
and he now rarely uses his little MacBook. His review was so good that we got an iPad 2 for ourselves last month after having a first-generation iPad. _LOVE IT!_ Our new one has 3G, which is a lifesaver when I'm traveling for work -- and it saved my butt in early June when we had no telephone or internet in our office due to a severed cable in the village. Thanks to 3G -- and now a USB modem -- our carrier's sometimes crappy service doesn't slow me down.

Go for it!

2. Get a stylus for it, too!
Then you really can do precise work, and I'm faster on the keyboard with the stylus than with my fingers by far.

I have also a Kindle and prefer to read books on it. The back-lighting distracts me, but for everything else, internet, e-mail, etc., the iPad is the way to go. The camera is crap, though, but who uses an iPad to take pictures, anyway?

It's a great device. You both will love it, trust me.

4. Sent from my iPad
I, after much encouragement from Poiuyt, finally gave up my laptop. There is a little give and take and I am still learning how to do some of the finer functions. The major thing is to not think of it as a "computer." Do I love it? Oh yeah!

7. We are 'a questions' couple....
When was someone (actor, athlete, singer, whatever) born, how tall, where, what and why thing. And
then one of us will want to know where to get counter-depth appliances, glass globes for the garden.
What is on the bestseller's list. What is that 2013 car suppose to look like?

So instead of running off to the office all day long, we just sling the iPAD along where we go and
get all the answers at our finger tips.

But you might use your iPAD for a completely different reason.:)

10. Maybe it's just my growing anti-Apple bias but I'd rather get an Android tablet.
I'm looking at the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy myself.

11. I thinking of getting one.
If I buy an air ticket for a very long flight I'm planning - 18 hours. Load it up with movies and a couple games. When I travel, I take a break from computers and the Internet. But this might be the exception. It's safer to book local trains and coaches with your own machine rather than guesthouse computers, where I'm going. Then next year when air fares are out of reach, I can carry it in my panniers while bicycle camping.

13. A total one-piece portable entertainment center
You can access the Internet, read eBooks, watch movies and TV shows, and listen to music, as well as play games.

I took mine on my recent trip to the Pacific Northwest, and it was great, because I was staying in a B&B that didn't have TV in the rooms. Instead of carrying a ton of books, I just carried a bunch of eBooks on the thin, lightweight iPad.

14. My friend got one.
I was very impressed with the speed and the quality of the graphics. It was great fun to use. Much larger and easier to use than the iPhone. And yet much easier to carry around than a laptop. I think iPads and similar devices are ideal for students, and could make the days of lugging around a bag full of heavy textbooks a thing of the past. It would also be good for people who are "on the go" and need to make notes as they work, such as doctors, salesmen, anyone who moves around a lot while they are working. The iPad 2 is very fast and very good for games. However, I don't think it's the solution for everyone. For the type of work I do, a desktop computer is much more appropriate. And for people who type a lot, typing on the iPad is not as easy as on a regular keyboard. Yes, I understand you can set it up so that you can use a standard keyboard with the iPad, but then that defeat's the iPad's biggest selling point, which is its compactness and portability. If you live near an Apple store I would encourage you to go to one, with no intention of buying, and just sit there for a while and use an iPad on display there, to see how you like it. That's really the ultimate guide for whether you should buy one or not.
