Our good friends could use some positive vibes and prayers for their son...
long story short, he's 23, fresh out of rehab and committed a very serious crime two days ago (nobody was hurt, thankfully). He was arrested at home and gave them no trouble and is now in jail. It's his 2nd bout w/jail and he committed a felony, so my guess that things aren't going to turn out that well for him.

He was really trying, too...he was reaching out, got help and trying to get a job. Something must've happened (either he relapsed or it's involving his depression/anxiety issues plus coming off the oxy). Something really bad was going to happen but thankfully it didn't. His parents are great folks and this isn't your typical dysfunctional family, the young man has just some really bad choices since leaving the Marines (he served one tour).

1. Prayers and vibes for your...
friend and their son! My son just turned 20, and I can't even begin to imagine the hell these parents, and their son are going through.

I will keep a positive thought for all involved. Maybe the fact that he was trying will help him.

4. Thank you, yes, it does seem like their own private hell.
We watched him grow up so it's all so strange. Yes, we do see a lot of evidence of him trying so maybe that will help him.

2. All kinds of positive thoughts for your friends...and their son.
Has he been evaluated for bi-polar disorder? It may be out there for me to suggest, but my cousin went off the chain after he left the Air Force (drinking, drugs, altercations with wife and others, and a suicide attempt) before my uncle finally stepped up and got him the help he needed. It took the VA awhile to figure out how to not make him a zombie with medications etc. His family is also not dysfunctional in the typical sense. The things my cousin told us when he finally got help were so sad. I can only help that this family's son gets the help and understanding that he needs. :(

5. It's not something that I've asked, as it's incredibly painful for them...
but I do know that since he went through rehab he is seeing professional help. Thanks for the extra info wrt the VA, I'll pass that along.
