I'm Looking For a Elegant Gentlemen's Briefcase or Satchel
I am looking for a nice elegant gentlemen's briefcase or satchel. Preferably leather. Something classy and something that will last. I don't really need until the fall but I am trying to save up for something really nice. I've looked at a lot of the name brands (Louis Vuitton,Ralph Lauren,Dunhill, etc) but just have not found anything that fits my style. I love retro or vintage and I like light browns.I've been watching ebay for months and have not found anything that really grabs my attention. So, if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

2. Thanks!
I've been checking this site out. Some really nice stuff but I can't afford $5,500 for a leather tote.

4. I like Jack Spade.
Most of it is heavy-duty high-quality cloth, though they do some leather too. Super high-quality, durable, probably the last bag you'll ever need to buy. Available in a range of colors and styles, some of which are recreations of WW-II-era field satchels. Both elegantly timeless and a hard working bag.

For what you're describing, I like these two: (though I'd probably buy it in waxcloth for myself as I'm vegetarian.)

Also, I'd wait until after Father's Day, they're a small company that creates each piece individually and does a lot of custom work as well; their inventory is usually 2x or 3x the the current inventory.

9. I wish they had some of the waxcloth ones in some 'girly' colors ...
I like the designs, really like the non-leather options (hard to find in women's styles that don't have tons of foofaraw buckles and other distracting hardware all over the place)... I'd just like fuschia or turquoise or silver - some more feminine colors.

It isn't easy to find streamlined women's products that have a bit of design to them... non-leather options are often offered in the latest trendy bag style, or have someone's damn logo all over the place (LV or Coach).

5. I have long coveted the Counterfeit Mailbag from J. Peterman.

Based on a real old-school mailman's mailbag. Looks gorgeous. Check it out at http://www.jpeterman.com/Luggage-and-Bags/Counterfeit-Mailbag

There is a more traditional briefcase called the All Leather Lariat Briefcase. More expensive. Not as intriguing (though, of course, your mileage may vary). http://www.jpeterman.com/Luggage-and-Bags/Lariat-Montgomery-St-Brief

truly collectible italian leather goods.

the quality is out of this world.

http://www.ilbisonte.com/

i had this bag til it was stolen:
http://shop.ilbisonte.com/us/briefcase-leonardo-natural_D0249XXPXXUXX120XX.html

Material: natural cowhide leather
- Unlined
- Gold-coloured brass accessories
- Single handles, height 5 cm / 1.97''
- Removable and adjustable shoulder strap
- Flap with snap fasteners
- Under flap cowhide leather zipped pocket and 4 pockets, one of which with a pen-holder
- 2 internal compartments
- Inside large leather zipped pocket
- Front branded IL BISONTE logo

Size and fit:
- Width: 39 cm / 15.35''
- Height: 27 cm / 10.63''
- Depth: 10 cm / 3.94''

it was the most amazing bag i've ever owned.

i've been looking at this one:
http://shop.ilbisonte.com/us/bag-scoop-chestnut-brown_A2010XXPXXUXX214NX.html

the light leather bags are produced in such a way that they darken with age -- as you handle it, etc -- gets an outstanding patina.
these are leather goods that will last your whole life.

Do you want to pay for a product, or the advertising budget?- ;)

I googled handmade leather briefcase and found this- $375.00
http://www.etsy.com/listing/47386955/handmade-leather-briefcasecomputercase

and this- $800.00-(Yikes-it's made in Massachusetts-where I lived from age 5-18... going for the rich customers)

10. I saw one that was smashingly elegant
It was at a veterans' meeting. There were a few Korean War vets there (I'm Vietnam-old, not Korea-old), and one of them was a big enchilada lawyer whose working clothes look like he's going to the Court of St James, I kid you not. And the first order of business was for somebody else to crack open an ice chest of Bud Light while this old lawyer dude unstrapped this elongated (from top to bottom, not side to side), supple leather briefcase or whatever it was, to retrieve a bottle of Johnny Walker. The bag was proportioned heightwise to accomodate the compartment for the liquor bottle. He announced for the benefit of newcomers, "This is a WET chapter..."

Anyway, the case was elegant and suitable to a gentlemanly DUer like Romantico!1

13. Satchels, egh.
I go into court every day (ok, once a week maybe, but I'm too lazy to go anymore really) and you see these lawyers trying to look like bicycle messengers. C'mon fellas, put on some long pants and try to have a molecule of personal dignity.
