13. I moved FROM there to escape the constant clouds, so am on your husband's side.
This year, the rain has been especially persistent.

22. Slip him a Mickey Finn, toss him and all your other stuff in the minivan, and drive on up.
When he wakes up after you arrive, try to convince him that he's confused:

No, we've always lived here, dear. Are you having those troublesome dreams about Texas again? I do wish you'd see a doctor about them!

3. Glad you liked us. We do have our moments.
I have to get out sometimes, though, to go somewhere hotter, more passionate, less healthy and reasonable. I don't think you can get further from my crazy, difficult, beloved New Orleans than here. Mind you, though, it's a really, REALLY easy place to enjoy.

So, questions...did you see the mountain? I've known people to bcome here many times without realizing that these clouds hide a BIG-ASSED mountain (Ranier) that just dominates the landscape when it's clear.

What cheezy touristy thing did you do that you loved? Did you ride the Duck, and did you get mooned? It's a popular activity.

Did you go to the Space Needle and was a great big Jerry Garcia looking dude writing from up there? That's my friend Knute Berger, Space Needle Writer in Residence. What a job!

5. Yes, I Saw The Mountain. It was Great
My favorite tourist place was the Curt Kobain exhibit. It was amazing. I thought about the Duck tour, but it was tooo cheezy. I did go to the Space Needle, and it was great. I also went to Safeco field, and it was great.

I would live in Seattle if I had kids to raise. What a wonderful part of the country to raise children.

7. Up here, we say 'the Mountain is out', when it's clear.
Worth all the overcast & rainy days when you can see it.

And although I live in fairly conservative Puyallup, I love living near big, lovely, liberal Seattle.

15. Yep raised two here and they're spectacular. TOTAL heat wusses though!
Let it get up to 75 and they're stripping off shirts and shoes and mopping their brows like it's high noon in the Sahara.

8. too bad Chinook Pass is so late opening this
year. The drive over the pass is unbelievably beautiful. Great Mt. Rainier views. If you ever get back here, in the summer months, it is a fabulous day drive. The pass is usually open by end of May, but due to the extreme amount of snow this year, the DOT estimates a late June opening.

10. Did you have a schooner? Do they still call them schooners?
Did you ride the ferry to Bremerton? Is there still a shipbuilding facility for the Navy there?

Saw my first snow in Seattle, New Year's eve, 1969. My second ship was being built and we were paid per diem to live off base for six months. Rode the monorail to the erstwhile World's Fairgrounds, where I saw my first and only opera and ballet. Bought scads of used books and a couple of small knickknacks/estate stuff. Four of us rented a car to see Vancouver and when we asked for directions there, were asked, "Where are you from?" We said Seattle. The gentleman replied, "Well, why don't you go back to Seattle. There's nothing to do here."

Reminds me of a thread the other day about Prince Phillip's not-so-bon mots: "Who are you?" "The editor of The Independent." "Why are you here?" "You invited me." "Well, you didn't have to come!"

17. I like it
I think we Seattlites develop selective memories though. Today is gorgeous, the first day of my work vacation, and I magically just forget about the horrid spring we just finished. Hope springs eternal, or something like that.

Glad you had fun.

24. Every day should be horrid, so that anything unacceptable is the same as any other.

To avoid being defeated by happiness.

And that situation would be bad form, when I am still due beer and travel money.

So, why would it matter if spring, winter, summer, fall, or any other day is anything, if it is not just and compassionate it is no different then any other.

And I am due beer and travel money.

Lo there do I see my father
