I have a personnel question.
When you work for an eleven member Board, do you send your resigantion letter to the Chair with copies to each Board member? Or do you just send the letter to the Chair and leave it at that? Is there a protocol for this?

1. From my VERY limited experience
as a member of the Parent's Advisory Board when my oldest was in school, I sent the original to the Chair, and copied the members. Then again, that was a "lifetime" ago.

2. Personally...
I'd probably just send it to the chair (and second if there is one); verbally inform the rest personally, making a point to tell them how much you enjoyed working with them (personally) and thanking them for the opportunity. (even if you hated your job and they abused you terribly and you think they're all assholes who should be used to test weaponized smallpox.)

Make sure you're giving sufficient notice, many such organizations consider it two weeks from the meeting where the resignation is formally acknowledged & not two weeks from when you gave the letter to the chair.

It's all about getting great references and connections on your way out the door.

3. Send your resignation to each of them in the form of a ribald limerick
A different verse for each of them is the convention, I believe.

4. Depending on the by-laws, it goes to just the Chair.

5. Would it be inappropriate to scrawl "Fuck ALL Y'all" on paper and broadcast fax it?

You could even xerox your ass if you feel it would make your point more firmly. I can see how that might do the trick in certain circumstances, but maybe not work well in others...

If you are leaving on decent terms, I'd suggest a letter to the Chair with CCs to the rest of the board as a courtesy. Of course you want to to be as proper and as positive as you can stomach.

Good luck!
