1. Tonight, when I was watching Dateline.
It was the story of the battle of Wanat, in Afghanistan. Nine members of Chosen Company were killed two weeks before they were scheduled to come home. The youngest was 20 years old. Some of the parents got together and tried to get some answers from the military about what happened.

Very sad. It made me cry.

2. today
I watched a WW2 movie about the rescue of 500 POWs held in a Japanese camp in the Philippines. The brutality and inhumanity were just so shocking -- even though I have known about it for a long time. The Japanese concept of "bushido" was so ugly. So evil.

Prior to that, I cried watching CNN the other night when the father of a boy named Lance, who is missing in the tornado, talked so openly of his love for his son and his quest to find him.

25. What you saw was NOT Bushido
Bushi Do was a system of moral principles that a warrior was expected to adhere to. It was comprised of the seven virtues of Rectitude,Courage,Benevolence,Respect,Honesty,Honor, and Loyalty. What you saw in that movie was a militaristic perversion

14. Oh, about two hours ago. I'm a human spigot.
Since I'm also a therapist I've had to get Zen with it. People often move me to tears and I just say "Your story is so compelling it's moved me to tears."

I'm a mess in movie theaters and plays and operas and concerts.

I never made it through a single children's program at my sons' school.

Interestingly I don't cry for me much, or when there's an emergency. Then I'm all business and gettin' it done.

Show me a sweet animal story, though...

15. Today
Edited on Mon May-30-11 04:06 PM by rbnyc
My husband and son are swimming at grandma and grandpa's. I wanted time alone. I've been singing and playing guitar in the back yard. I decided to re-learn an old grateful dead song I used to play in college, Black Peter. I started crying when I got to the part "The people might know, but the people don't care..."

Black Peter

All of my friends come to see me last night
I was laying in my bed and dying
Annie Beauneu from Saint Angel
say "the weather down here so fine"

Just then the wind
came squalling through the door
but who can
the weather command?
Just want to have
a little peace to die
and a friend or two
I love at hand

Fever roll up to a hundred and five
Roll on up
gonna roll back down
One more day
I find myself alive
tomorrow
maybe go
beneath the ground

See here how everything
lead up to this day
and it's just like
any other day
that's ever been
Sun goin up
and then the
sun it goin down
Shine through my window and
my friends they come around
come around
come around

People may know but
the people don't care
that a man could be
as poor as me...
"Take a look at poor Peter
he's lyin in pain
now let's go run
and see"

Run and see
hey, hey,
run and see

Mel Gibson is a real DA, but I like that movie. (even if his character is an 18th century Martin Riggs)

21. Last night reading to my son...
The Giving Tree, which is sad enough in it's own right. But this copy was given to him by his physical therapist when he turned 3 and started getting therapy at school.

Kids been through medical hell in his 5 years and come out the other side a ridiculously well adjusted, normal kid for his age. And the note this woman wrote to him on the front flap of the book, coupled with how far he's come, and knowing how much of it was helped along by her and how hard she worked for him........yeah, I lost it.

22. We talking just a lump in the throat or outright sobbing?
I mean, I haven't really broken down and cried since my grandfather died four or five years ago. On the other hand, I can get a little choked up just turning on the infant monitor and watching my son sleeping.

I'm going through a bout of depression right now. It happened back during the holidays and it went away after I started taking meds for it. Now its back and I started taking them again. Not a good feeling.

28. Yesterday
Watching a flash mob video on youtube. Watching dance will often move me to tears -- something about the physical expression of emotion that just gets me, "right here" (pointing at heart).....you know? This time it wasn't so much the dancing itself that got me -- it was was the looks on the faces of the spectators. A group of strangers stopped in their tracks; sharing a moment of joy. It was beautiful.

Last August, the day this picture was taken. It was her first day of school, I was at work and my wife snapped this picture and sent it to me...all of a sudden she looked so grown up and it seemed like she wasn't my little baby anymore and....now seeing it again I think I'm about to start crying all over..... just look what you've gone and done! :spank:
