Just heard what sounded like five rapid pistol shots
I live in a quite small town with a handful of rough characters in it, and every so often there's a violent blip on the police blotter.

Sitting here at the computer desk, I just heard the distinctive "pop pop pop pop pop" that's doesn't sound like fireworks and doesn't sound like hammering.

Wonder what's up.

2. lock your doors
That happened to me one time. A sound of car tires coming into the parking spaces about thirty feet from where I was sitting inside at night, and the same number of pops -- five of them. Gunshots, for sure. Then the car left. I never heard anything more about it. But I have never forgotten the pop pop pop pop pop.

3. I'm happy to report that there was no follow up, at least not that I heard
No sirens or additional gunfire. Might simply have been some asshole shooting in his back yard.

8. One of the local cops put down a deer last year in the neighborhood
Heard a couple of "pops" that sounded like pistol fire, but no follow-up. I heard about it later.

Maybe something similar? Rabid raccoon?

9. Hadn't thought about that. I suppose it's possible.
Haven't seen nor heard any follow-up at all, though, so I guess it'll have to remain a mystery.
