Dear GOD...Radiohead can't POSSIBLY be THIS fucking bad...can they?
I'm listening to Shoutcast radio via Winamp and the station "181.FM Chilled"...they just played a Radiohead song called "Nude" and what can I say but thank FUCK it is OVER.

Sorry Radiohead fans. I calls 'em the way I sees 'em.

:-)

2. EXACTLY as I suspected! AHA!
It would almost impossible for a GREAT band to write a song that BAD.

Even a BAD band should crawl under a rock for serving up that kind of DRIVEL.

YECCH.

4. You have to hear a song they did with Shirley Bassey. Phenomenal.

5. I guess it depends....
..on what you like normally and what you think is "good".

8. True...that one song would be at the opposite end of the "what I like" scale.
Seriously, if any of their other songs even sound remotely like that one, I'll probably never listen to them again.

12. Well what do you like?
I love Radiohead. And I mean other than modern country there's very little I don't like. But my main jams are punk, indie rock, electronic experimental, etc. With minors in classic rock and metal. But yeah, if someone is into pop music, or traditional basic classic rock music then Radiohead is just not going to be their thing.

13. Most kinds of music except for the style in THAT song...
Whatever style of music THIS is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ky1td3_6LY

...I don't like that style of music. If they have more songs that sound like this, I'm glad I haven't heard them.

I grew up with Country, Jazz, Rock, Metal, Blues...pretty much the gamut of what was played in the 60s and 70s.

I even like a lot of the music I hear on that Shoutcast "181.FM Chilled" station...stuff like Ivy, Club 8, Zero 7, Sneaker Pimps, Bent...

Indie, not so much. I liked R.E.M. when they were considered an indie act, but I see that genre as a 50/50 chance of hearing someone great or hearing someone who's just a tremendous pain in the ass...like Radiohead on "Nude."

15. Well then......
If you grew up with Country, Jazz, Rock, Metal, and blues then I can pretty much totally see not liking Radiohead. No harm or foul in that. It's just a whole different animal from that stuff.

But what's intriguing to me is that there's not a whole host of daylight between Radiohead (specifically the song you're talking about) and stuff like Zero 7, Sneaker Pimps, etc. so that's a bit more confusing. If you weren't someone who could hang with more ambient, beat oriented chill type music then it would make sense. But that's largely what Radiohead are doing in that song (which in actuality is probably only indicatively of maybe a third of what they do).

Maybe it's because you've heard/read so much praise heaped on them for being genius musical visionaries, etc. and therefore what you actually heard didn't match up to that. Which I can see. I had more or less the same thing happen to me. But I got past it and now I love them.

So maybe if you heard that song without knowing it was "OMG THIS IS THE GREATEST MODERN BAND WORKING TODAY AND YOU MUST LOVE THIS!!!!" it would have blended more in with the other stuff on that station and not really irked you as much.

Or maybe you'd still hate it. Taste is a weird, subjective thing.

17. You're right, there's no logic to it...
...and I've been listening to a lot of the ambient / chill / downtempo stuff lately, primarily via that Shoutcast station. A few others I like are Trenches, Azure Ray, Lenka...taste most certainly is a weird, subjective thing.

:toast:

Every once in a while a track will come through that is just too eccentric for me or something, I don't know. Another Radiohead track they slipped in a few days ago was "No Surprises," and I thought "OK, this should be interesting, I haven;t heard Radiohead before," and it just bored the hell out of me, which is odd, because it wasn't particularly out of character with the other songs played in the hour. I got a minute and a half into it and started thinking "How soon will it be over?"

They also played a song by Beth Orton, and I thought the same thing..."I've heard of her, but have never heard her," and didn;t care for the song at all...it was all affected delivery, just annoying.

So last night a song comes on and I'm thinking "Hey, that's NICE, who IS that," and it was Beth Orton (a different song, "Thinking About Tomorrow").

So maybe there's a Radiohead song in there somewhere that I'd like...I've heard three so far and have hated all three.

20. I love Beth Orton too...
She also fluctuates between more electronic beat driven ambient stuff, and some more traditional minded modern folk.

Both she and Radiohead definitely aren't easy to enjoy or get into in a more casual, singles driven way. But if you approached it from a full album perspective maybe something would click. Maybe not.

If you ever feel so inclined, their albums are definitely more cohesive and fully realized. They're not a singles band. Still might not be your thing, but if you're feeling adventurous you might find it worthwhile.

Don't like his voice, don't like his delivery, don't like his songs...just a matter of preference.

10. I quite liked "Nude" - their new album 'King of Limbs', however, is boring
A word I never thought I'd ever use describing a Radiohead album

16. Agreed....
It's a bummer because I think they've gotten better and better on each album. In Rainbows was just brilliant. This one to me just felt like they tried to put something out for the sake of putting something out rather than actually putting the full effort into it.

I wanted to hate it. But alas, I could not.
