Wouldn't it be logical to board planes from the back first?
Every time I fly it just amazes me that they board the front rows first and work their way to the rear seats. So everybody has to climb over each other the whole time. And with everyone bringing huge carry-ons it's a real pain. Isn't it obvious that it would be much easier to board from the back first? Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?

2. All the back-row people would leave their bags
in the front-row overheads, just so they don't have to drag them as far.

Plus, the airlines want us all to see and envy the swells in first class, while their waiter serves the champagne.

Finally, do not ask that question in the airport. TSA will drag you off the plane for causing a disturbance.

3. Also, one of the few benefits of Status is boarding first
which allows you to ensure that you can bring your bag on board.

They USED to board from the back first, but the Silver, Gold & Platinums wanted to get on first, and wanted to sit up front in order to deplane faster.

4. Yabbut
That way the first-class passengers wouldn't be able to sit their fat asses in the wide, comfortable leather seats and sip their free alcoholic drinks while watching the parade of "the rabble" for their amusement.

6. Because first and business class passengers would complain
That's why. "I paid $XXXX for my seat, and I have to board last?" Airlines make their real money off 1st and business class passengers, not the average smuck flying at the cheapest rate possible. You want to stay in business, you keep you best customers happy, any way necessary.

7. There are some airplanes that are configured to board from the middle.
Some Boeing 757s, for example, have a center boarding door, so if you have a first class seat you turn left when you get inside the plane; if you are in coach you turn right. Seems to be a sensible way of doing things, but that configuration doesn't work on all airplanes/jetway setups.

8. After they load first class and business
most airlines do load economy from the back forward

9. Yes, we do!
I work for the airlines in SFO and we board special needs passengers and families with small kids first. Then we board First Class. ( Those guys don't really take very long to sit down, cuz they can enjoy their drinks sooner that way!) After that, we board the back and work our way forward.

Unfortunately, too many people don't see the method to the madness. They seem to have lost the ability to count consecutively, or read a boarding pass. You say "We're boarding Rows 18 through 28" and invariably someone will come and ask: "Are you boarding Row 7 yet?" Or else the passengers will be on the plane, sitting in their seats, and just after the pilot puts on the fasten seat belt sign, they suddenly get weak bladders and hold up the works by spending 20 minutes in the lav's.

And don't even get me STARTED on the idiots who refuse to turn off their cell phones or IPads! It is truly like herding cats, boarding the flights!

10. Then the people who paid more would have to board last.
Can't have that.

11. when was the last time u flew? 1980? or what airline is this?

they do board the back first, as far as you guys in economy

they board people who need assistance (wheelchairs and babies and other slow-moving folk first)

then first class -- you are not going to have to climb over first class, so don't worry
about it, they board us early so that we can have a pre-flight cocktail

then they board the premium coach passengers and exit rows, so that those folks who have
done something for the airline (premiums have either paid too much for their ticket or fly
to often, exit rows have to assist in an emergency) are guaranteed space in the overhead bin

then, as far as regular pax, they DO board from the back first, so if you're in seat 33, you'll be
zone 2 or whatever your airline calls the first group to board after "needs assist," first class, and premiums/exit

so they're already boarding from the back first, except they assume you would prefer not to delay the flight
while waiting for old ladies in wheelchairs to board last (they're frequently in row 5) or waiting for
swells in first class to have a pre-flight cocktail and clean-up

the order is perfectly logical as it is

12. because the first class passengers want everyone to see them in their seats
they paid good money for them to board first, so the rest of us regular people get paraded by them, we are supposed to envy the first class passengers. But I do agree, why dont they board from the back first, it makes more sense. haha, I always feel sorry for the poor passengers who have to deal with me walking past their seats, my backpack slapping them on the head on my way past
