NYC DUers - how close is Gramercy to Grand Central or Penn stations?
I was contacted about a job in the "Gramercy" area of NYC. Is that close to where I can hop off the train and walk to the office?

Thanks

1. It would be closer to Penn than Grand Central
According to Google: Its clean streets stretch from 20th Street until the start of Murray Hill at 34th Street, and are bordered by the East River and Park Avenue to the west.

Depending on where in Gramercy your job was located in, it could be as few as 6 or 7 blocks from Penn Station (34th between 7th and 8th Avenues). That's not too bad a walk. I used to walk from 57th and 6th to Grand Central (42nd and Park Avenue) when I worked in NYC. I'm afraid I don't know public transportation very well in NYC anymore. I've been away too long. Good luck.

3. If you're coming from CT, you're going to Grand Central
the cost of commuting on Amtrak (Penn) is prohibitive.

It is basically a straight shot down from Grand Central at 42nd and Park to the Gramercy area around E. 23rd: an easy bus or subway (6 train) ride, or a healthy but manageable (in decent weather) walk.

4. It's about a mile and a half walk from Grand Central.
Or a $300 cab ride.

5. The gramercy park area is easy to get to from Grand Central.
Gramercy Park is the area on the east side, in the streets numbering from the upper teens to 32nd street. The green subway line (4, 5 and 6) goes right through there, from Grand Central, generally follows Lexington ave south down the entire east side. If you take a cab you shouldn't spend more than $7.

6. Just keep an eye out for the Riffs.
Wouldn't want you to get "japped" while walking through Gramercy Park after dark.
