4. From a humane perspective, yes, call animal control.

If you are not a "pet person" then yes, get on the horn now with animal control. If they do not have 24 hour services, then can you at least consider putting that kitten in your garage or bathroom overnight with a pan of water and some canned tuna? I dunno if you can manage a litter pan or not, but even a gift box with some sand or garden soil in it will do in an emergency.

The big concern with leaving a kitten out overnight is either predators or exposure. Either one could kill it.

If you absolutely cannot bring yourself to allow that kitten in your house you can maybe put a box with a towel in it out for the kitten to get in to stay warm.

Thank for noticing the kitten. A lot of non-pet people would not.

I suspect they probably would be reluctant to bring a stray into the house.

Some people are afraid of cats. Phobias do happen, and take it from somebody who lives with a huge black cat, people really ARE afraid of itty bitty kitties sometimes (big fat ones, too, if you want the truth...) I have literally had kids book down my driveway when they spot Chaucer in a window.

I forgot to suggest calling any friends who are cat people when I posted up-thread. I'd be willing to bet that even if the OP is not able to be a temporary cat parent, he probably knows somebody that is. If animal control can't or won't come, maybe call a buddy to help that kitten out...

...people who don't want a box of shit in the house, people with pricey (not cat-proof) furniture, people who don't own lint rollers, people who don't want to go out in bad weather to walk the dog, people who don't want the expense, people who don't want to go through the emotional strain of losing a pet every few years...

That's off the top of my head. They are not for everyone.

say anything because I didn't take any action and I knew people here would be upset. I really really really don't like animals or pets so inviting it in was not an option for me. The sounds the cat made really freaked me out too but hopefully someone else helped because s/he moved on after a while.

There is no way I would allow any animal to be crying at my back door and ignore it. I'd bring her inside, confine her to a small space (a kitten that young might not know what a litter box is)and give her some food and a blanket, at the very least! Damn it, I'd probably stay up all night comforting the little fur ball!

In the morning? Off to my neighbor, a confirmed cat freak that would turn the kitten into a 16lb couch potato.

Did I mention my high dislike of cats?
