Vibes, if you will.......for me, tomorrow...
I've been dealing with a pesky cardiac arrhythmia for several months now...

My doctor is a very cool guy, and we talk by email as needed. I have been keeping him up-to-date on what's happening, and he's been advising me.

We still don't have a handle on just what exactly is wrong. I do have a history of funny little beats from time to time, but this episode is different.

I've been worrying about it...yeah, I know...real productive!

So I finally got an appointment for noon, tomorrow.

Maybe I'll get some answers, and even something to help this damn thing go away.

So...if you'd care to hold a good thought for me for tomorrow, I'd sure appreciate it...

I hate to admit it, but I am a little bit scared.

Yeah, a-fib is a possibility but I hope not. As a retired RN, I know what kind of complications it brings.

Not to worry about my doc! He is a great guy; I chose him when I still worked in the hospital. He has a great sense of humor and we get along great.

Thanks for the vibes, sweetie!

16. My dear CaliforniaPeggy!!!
.
.
.
MAJOR vibes going out to you -- strength and health and healing.
.
.
.
I have a MULTITUDE of things going on -- one of which WAS an arrhythmia
that turned out to be a-fib. That doesn't seem to be a factor anymore --
there's all sorts of solutions and mine (for THAT condition, at least) seems
to have been a little maintenance medication.
.
.
.
You'll be fine. I've been amazed at what they can see and what they can
do now. Over the last coupla years, I have actually been AWESTRUCK by
some of the things that they've shown me and done.
.
.
.
I've lived a long and JOYOUS, but relatively risky lifestyle (pretty tame for
the last 10-15 years, though) and they're working wonders with me... just
think what they'll be able to do with you!!!
.
.
.
I'll be thinking of you.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
DO try to pay attention to your doctors.

Have had NO problems with it since, still have about 7 years till the battery gets changed. You probably will not need anyting so drastic, but it works very well if you should.

Going to see the doc is the best thing you can do for yourself...got to keep that thing working, you know...

Please let us know what happens.

54. **Update**
OK, I went to see my doctor.

And he says I have an irritable heart...his words, not mine! I'm having lots and lots of premature atrial contractions, or PAC's.

These are not dangerous in and of themselves. But too many can be a problem.

Here's the plan:

Right now I'm wearing a 24 hour Holter monitor, which will record my heart rhythm for the next 24 hours. I'll return the device Monday, and they'll read it. He'll have the results by Wednesday.

He also wants to do another echocardiogram, and get some lab work too. Next week for all this...

Then he'll decide, with my input too, what to do about all this...

But the main point is what I have is not life-threatening...

Whew.

...for what it's worth, I also have "non-life-threatening" issues with my own hart, including an irregular heartbeat. A couple of years ago I had to go to the local hospital for the full battery of treadmill tests, etc. Scary at the time, yes...so I'm glad that your doctor is working with you and hope that it will soon be fully managed and something you don't need to worry about.

72. Just caught this thread!
Probably a good thing that I didn't see it earlier, I would have been so worried!

Delighted to hear that it's not too serious, but PLEASE take care of yourself CaliforniaPeggy, we all love you!

78. Glad you got good news, Peggy.
I have been waltzing around with an implanted defibrillator for a couple of years. It does nothing but make a lump in my chest. I think I got it because the doctor knew he would get paid by Medicare. The worst part of that was the recuperation in the nursing home. I spent a month in the bleakest conditions and was never happier than when I got to leave.

..I was reading this thread and about to tell you my 87 yr old dad has had a pacemaker for about 6 years now and is doing very well on it. A-fib was his issue as well. And my late mom was an RN as well, so she made sure he took care of himself. But no pacemaker is better than maintenance with one.

Anyway, if the doc wants to call it an "irritable heart", we at DU know better. My dear Peggy, your heart is pure gold, we've seen evidence of that here for a long time!!

(edited to complete my half-expressed thoughts. This is happening a lot these days!)

81. Big hugs and positive vibes for you!
I have been on meds for a heart murmur (mitral valve prolapse) since the age of 19 and know how these issues can be aggravating. Murmurs/arrhythmia runs in my family and the best thing I can say is to take care of it soon--never put it off. My mother's strokes began due to issues with her heart valve replacement, and if she'd had repair done than replacement she may very well still be here today.

Have you worn the monitor yet? I have had to wear them from time to time for a week at a time, it's not a bother. It'll be ok!

83. My dear Dappleganger!
I've had the mitral valve prolapse since birth apparently, but only became aware of it back in the 1980's. I've had some arrhythmias off and on over the years, but the last couple of months or so have seen them increase hugely.

I know better than to ignore that stuff!

I am in fact done now with the 24 hour Holter monitor. I started wearing it yesterday and it came off earlier today. I'll turn it in Monday, and they should have the results by Wednesday.

He wants me to have another echocardiogram this coming week, and blood work. Then we will consider what to do next. Probably a change in medications.

Thanks for your good thoughts! I truly appreciate them...

88. CAPeggy!! Oh my goodness
Haven't been here in awhile - getting ready to move blah blah blah, but I saw this and was sooo worried. Thank you for the update, and oh, thank goodness that it's not a very serious, life-threatening, and more frightening health issue. I know you'll keep us updated, and will wait for your news. It helps that you have a medical background and what sounds like a good doc, and of course your family support is out-of-this-world incredible.

Vibes, sweetie, always vibes for you!!

107. My dear Peggy!
Greetings from dreary and foggy London.

As one who has had a serious cardiac near-miss (Mother Nature slated me to check out permanently on April 30, 2004),
I know what it means to go in to a cardiologist with an uncertain outcome.

However, these people are often VERY good, and so I will allow myself some optimism on your behalf. After all, I'm still here
to offer it, and that wasn't supposed to happen in the first place.

but perhaps that means you're (wait for it....) normal! :)

Don't you fret, don't you worry -
Dr's gonna fix you up in a hurry.
And if he don't we'll make him pay.
Tell him your DU friends will be on the way!

Tee hee

109. I know how disconcerting an irregular ticker can be.
I started having PVCs 20+ years ago.

I'm sure your cardiologist will have a solution to get you back "into the groove" again.

Hugs, and keep us posted, my dear.
