4. Another live Buddy Guy performance, with the Stones in 2006 - "Champaine and Reefer"...

a great old Muddy Waters song...Buddy's voice soon has Jagger playing harp instead of singing...

"Give me champaine when I'm thirsty, and reefer when I wants to get high..."

5. I either read or heard an interview at the time this was released...
...I forget the source but it was a conversation about Buddy's performance, that it wasn't a "friendly jam" but a "reckoning," and when he stepped out on that stage it was serious business...that he was out for blood, that it was his stage.

I can see that in his playing...he is always soft-spoken and humble, especially when talking about other players, but when he goes to work, he goes to work.

I saw him live at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, part of a package show with Dr. John, The Faboulous Thunderbirds (post-Jimmy Vaughan), and B.B. King. He opened with "Sweet Home Chicago" and just bludgeoned the air with that opening riff, hit it with such precision and power and volume that he immediately claimed his authority.

He was, is, and will always be the best.
